I'm curious as to what you folks use for editing your videos. I use WMM right now, but it's starting to bother me. There's a massive difference between the audio/video timing while editing and while watching the final product outside of the program.

Now, being a broke post-secondary student I'd prefer a free program, but right now anything is better than WMM, I'm starting to realize.
 
I moved from WMM to Sony Vegas about 5 years ago and haven't looked back. I've tried a couple other programs, but Vegas has beaten them all (IMO) without question.
 
I've got Vegas Pro too. No idea how to work it but I can still get a video rendered. Plus, if you know your way around the internet you *could* get it free.

There's so many instructional videos on YouTube it almost hurts. Anything you want to do with it, just ask YouTube. For the most part the controls remained similar across various versions, so you can often watch a tutorial for Pro 9 and get it figured out on Pro 12.
 
Sony Vegas was my saviour after someone on here pointed out it was reduced in PC World months ago. Maybe search around on eBay for a cheap copy.

I'm forever grateful to the geeks at school who let me borrow the school's copy a few years back, the perks of being Head Boy 'ey ;)

The latest versions are expensive, but there's a version 9 that's up to 26 quid at the moment.

I know keep meaning to do that but haven't had much time.
 
I'm using Corel VideoStudio Pro X6. This version introduced a nice feature, which is automatic tracking - handy should you (for example) need to blur something out in your video. Ahem. X6 will also edit 4K, which I'm pretty sure will be the next big thing... forget 3D.

I also use NCH VideoPad which is pretty good, and you can get a free version of this which has fewer features but which is nevertheless pretty darned good, still.

I also have Vegas by the way, albeit an older version. I do like it but it's not as efficient as the editors I'm using now, or at least it seems that way to me. After all... the videos I am making now are pretty lightweight, and don't need the tons of fancy stuff that Vegas will supply.
 
I use sony vegas pro, bought the licence a while back and havent looked back, not bad spending £30 to fuel a hobby! makes it quite cheap. im like a lot of people however that i probably only use about 10% of what the program can actually do, but it suits me!
 
Seems like it's a landslide for SOny Vegas, I'll have to give that a whirl :D

Just as long as what I see while editing and timing the audio/video is what I GET once I watch the final project, I'm a happy man!
 
Good luck. One thing to bear in mind, Vegas' preview takes up a lot of memory. If you try to run it at high resolutions it will probably get jumpy. The final output is unaffected by the quality of the preview, so don't be afraid to turn it down.
 
lightworks for me, stupidly powerful if you take the time to learn it properly (i haven't yet), and it's more aimed at producing proper films/etc, but it's pretty nice to use, makes managing loads of little clips and things a piece of cake

only real downside is the £40 a year license fee, but it's not much in my book

Where is that tracking setting? I just started using X7 Ultimate and the interface is a bit minimalist.
 
I use Lightworks to edit my videos, I am looking into another programme to edit my videos with, Sony Vegas seems to be what everyone likes to use. I will have a look at prices for the pro version next payday.
