Well if you can grasp the basics of editing with iMovie you will have a head-start if you switch to FCPX as they have made the two very alike, so its not such a difficult transition as it used to be with the older versions of FCP

Not sure I'd pay out £199 for FCPX (or any editing software) tho

I use Sony Vegas to edit my videos and its awesome and fairly straight forward to use on a basic level

PC? Sony Vegas Pro if you're an experienced editor; Premiere Elements is simple yet powerful for the average person.

Mac? Final Cut Pro all the way.

iMovie is good enough when you start out. A good vlog doesn't have to have fancy editing, but it can make the vlog nicer to watch. No amount of editing sparkles can make a poor vlog more watchable.
