Drift audio and Nolan Ncom

I've got a Nolan N91 helmet, and I'll soon be getting an Ncom basic and Bluetooth kit for it.

The Nolan kit has facility for audio out (PMR etc), any one got any experience of using this with a Drift? Mine is the Ghost.

Should anyone know pin-outs or ready made - off the shelf leads that can be purchased in the UK, I'd be grateful.

Thanks all.

I've got a pinout for the Drift HD only. It's a 2.5mm TRS connector. Tip is MIC, Ring is not connected (and needs to be left unconnected) and Sleeve is MIC GND. The Ghost may be similar.

Cheers for that. Think the Drift mic is common to all Drifts.

Is the tip the mic on TRRS iPhone connectors too? If so, I can test recording the Nolan on my old iPod that doesn't get used rather than risking the camera.

Ghost is 3.5mm pin ... Assume the order of connects is the same?

Oh and I've had a N102 for years .... Always going to buy a Ncom and hook it in..... Lack of cash .... Was hard to find rider reviews on performance ... When I get a rig now it will be a Scala G9 ... Cos that will go with any helmet I might get ...

Not saying don't get the Ncom!! ... Would love to see a vlogger review of them!!

I'll experiment with the iPod, see what goes bang and report back. Think it's all arriving on Wednesday.

The mic on phone headsets is on the second ring. It won't work. If it's a TRRS connector, the pinout is Left, Right, GND, MIC or Left Right Mic Gnd depending on manufacturer.
If you connect it anyways, you can use it as an inefficient microphone but you'll need to talk on the left headphone, not on the mic.

I could wire up an adaptor cable. As it's a helmet set, gonna struggle to put that on sideways!!! :D

Done a little digging - the Drift mic will plug in to an iPhone/iPod and record mono audio, so I'm thinking I might just get away with this on the Drift input. Got the Nolan kit, but I now have to wait for it to charge....

Not wishing to hijack this thread, but do helmet specific intercoms only work with other helmet intercoms from the same company? Or can you use them to communicate with Sena, Scala, etc?
Just curious, because I can't imagine a group of friends all having the same helmet brand and intercom. Suppose it's more common for a passenger and pillion, but that's got to be a much smaller market.

As far as I know, as long as they share the same radio (Bluetooth, 800MHz, 27MHz, ISM), they can talk to each other.

That's the theory being... :) Bluetooth compatibility isn't what it could be though.

The Nolan's can hook up to some PMR/FRS radios with a lead, I don't know if other makes can or not.

Just hooked up the N-com to the Drift... I used the OUT port (for helmet to helmet) which is a 2.5mm TRRS, I have an intercom lead (I think) which is a 2.5mm TRRS to 3.5mm TRRS, shoved that in the Drift and spoke, and it appears to be clear and clean. Not tried it on the bike yet with regards to wind noise etc etc, but so far so good.

Sat here like a prick in the living room with my helmet on trying to figure out what all the functions do and nearly called a few people due to the iPhone deciding that "Call John <surname>" was intact to be take as "Call Up and Under", one is a friend, and one is a climbing shop in Wales...

Downside now - the rubber/plastic shroud of the Nolan connector is too big to fit through the back door hole on the Drift, although what I may do is investigate getting the correct sized connector and making my own lead up to link the two.
