You could cut your water proof housing and make a cover for the port opening. That would be your best bet, I have seen options depending on what go pro you have where you can use a flat usb connector and smaller wire to make a adapter what will go through the gasket seal on the back. This is extremely helpful, I'll be doing this soon, I need a setup for recording that's a lot less clunky and irritating, now if only having the mic plugged in meant that the GoPro was still waterproof! I live in sunny, rain-free England (!)
Is 3350 a microphone? You should really grab a 3350 and do a vid on shortening that damn cable while keeping it functional! Results seem mixed
I wonder the need for a powered mic? I have been happy so far with the sony mic i got and the cord is perfect length. Trick to soldering mic or headphone wires when you cut them is to use fine grit sand paper or a razor and carefully remove the plastic coating over the wires, other wise they are damn near impossible to get the solder to take.Yes the 3550 is a commonly used powered lav mic, one of the issues is the length of the cable. Results of cutting and re-soldering the cables inside the sheathing have been mixed

I dunno the sony I am using is a stereo mic, and seems to pick up very well from initial testing. I just HATE the idea of having to fuck around with god damn watch battery's just to keep the mic going lolHero 3 mic jack is not powered. I haven't tried non powered mics but I've heard they don't pickup as well???
