Hey everyone,

For now, I shoot my videos via my Drift Ghost in 1080p. I crop them using RealPlayer then upload the cropped videos to YouTube. I notice they come out terrible quality and I have to manually change it to 1080p. Do I need to use a pro editing software or something? Is there a setting in YouTube (can't seem to find one)? Or am I just the only one who sees it in bad quality?

Thanks in advance, and excuse my ignorance.

Cropping the video will make it lower quality, just like cropping a photograph lowers the quality. Edit them using the native resolution without cropping.

I don't know of a way to have youtube playback 1080p by default. It partly depends on the size of the player. If you use the default smallest size player, it usually plays at 380, the slightly larger size at 480. If you play it fullscreen, it *should* playback at 720p. But again, that's based on the person watching the video, not the uploader.

Client side settings within Youtube that might affect playback quality:
Video playback quality

Always choose the best quality for my connection and player size
Always play HD on fullscreen (when available)
I have a slow connection. Never play higher-quality video

Just out of curiosity, why do you crop your videos with Realplayer?

Video quality seems fine to me at 360/480. People will manually have to switch to HD. That's just he way the Youtube player is designed to work. You can always put an annotation in the video to remind users to switch to HD. :)

Okay cool, as long as you have the option too. I was getting worried my expensive camera was useless lol! I'll catch up on the teching as I go along.
