Creating Route/Map Animations

In my new video (A New Start) my animated map shot stats at 8:44. Any feedback would be appreciated.

That showed the route ok, but I felt the angle was too low, would have been clearer if it was closer to top down, having a little angle allows the terrain to show, but too much and it doesn't show the route as well.

Thanks, and good point. I wanted to showcase a more 3D feel to the map. A higher angle would flatten the effect more to the 2D side of the graphics, but I see what you mean.

I do wish I had a better map that wasn’t as dark. That made it harder to bring out the 3D topography that I tried to create.

Yeah, it is a compromise. Would keeping the map facing north show the route better, that way you could maybe retain the angle, but also see the wiggles of the ride more?

Ahh that could be pretty awesome, you could maybe zoom in closer too, to show the places you are passing better, so start with it out wide showing the whole state, zoom in a little to follow the route, then zoom back out to show the scale of the distance covered? :-)

The dotted line seemed to be more in 2d than the map. It sort of felt detached from the map. Maybe it was because of the angle you showed it at, or the shape of the dots. But that was just a momentary personal discomfort, when watching it. I still thought overall, it looked nice.

It’s actually in 2.5 D, or 2D images made to look 3D. The most I could get with the dotted lines was for it to track with the map as the camera moved over it.

One of the flaws with the map and animation is I had to approximate the route as the map didn’t show the highway I would be taking. When I try this again I’ll see if I can get a better map with the route included to enhance the animation.

I saw a motovlogger by the screen name of Steel City Motovlogs use the Relive app in one of his latest videos. Impressive!

So I gave the free version a try today -

I think my sis has used this app. There is also a possibility to add video clips in the same app, from your stops. But there was some quirk to it. I don't think you can do it after the ride, so might be a better idea to do it yourself in your own editing program.
