Hey guys,

Looking around for a new desktop/laptop at the moment, Normally the WizKid with computers but I'm new to editing!
Would you say a faster processor with integrated graphics would preform better over a system with a low-med end CPU with dedicated graphics, where editing and rendering HD video is concerned?
Thanks :D

Get a great CPU and a dedicated GPU. SORTED.

I wouldn't use a CPU with integrated graphics for anything other than browsing the internet, but then again I'm a pc gamer :P

if you're getting a dedicated graphics card get an nvidia card, they have kuda especially good for video editting preferrably a 550 or minimum 540 for high def.

I'm on Friz' side! Would never get a Macbook, Ok so both are good, But is the CPU alone decent enough for HD rendering? I don't play pc games and I wouldn't want to go out and spend £300 more than I have to for the extra boost

Getting ready to build a new puter as well. What Nvidia card(s) in particular would you suggest?

I was going to go with 8g RAM / Intel Core i5 / SSD hard drive.

I have a top of the line iMac, after saving for years and limping by with a $300 netbook (with 1 gig of RAM... *twitch*).

Now I'm all-- "Rendering? What's that?"

It's amazing.

I still have the little netbook for travel.

Oh, I didn't mean a MacBook, I meant a Mac Pro, the towers, not laptops. There about £2000.

With specs that match a computer you can build yourself for less than half that cost :)

I use a HP 17" laptop with i7 quad. 4gb Ram and it eats HD content!! Love it and it's portable.
Don't wander too far from the wall outlet though!

True, actually it's always plugged in. I sit back on my comfy sofa whilst editing. Used to get back ache at a desktop (and it took up too much room) This thing is soooo quick too.

I can edit on my kinda old now pc (upgrade soon after bike test)

Intel q6600 @ 4ghz
4GB Ram
2 x Nvidia 8800GT's in SLi
120GB SSD for Vegas and Win 7
and 2 x 1tb HDD's in RAID 1 so i don't lose anydata .... Works for now lol (most expensive bit is probs the SSD)
