I find this blind lane change to be most common when someone has already changed at least one lane and are just continuing their migration across the freeway without really looking, regardless of the fact that the next lane over is already occupied by you...
Yeah, they might look over once and then go flying across. I got hit like that a few months ago and now I'm double aware of it. Just go to youtube and search for "Hit by a Van at 75mph" and you'll see.
