Serious Close Call With A Car...

G'day,
As the title suggests, I finally had a close call with someone trying to merge on top of me; even on a bike of my size FFS!

Think Bike. Look Twice.

Yeah it certainly is. From the look of surprise on this lady's face I don't think she will be skipping head checks for a little while... I hope.

I have to deal with someone like that once or twice a day. Funny how you start to recognize what they're gonna do before they do it.

See it happening more often, sometimes even honking doesn't help, because people ride with earphones in...

lol i have had a few close calls but never had a chance to use horn yet on people. its happens when i dont see it coming.

This is such a common situation. I really think the driving schools should use exactly that video to enforce the importance of several shoulder checks when merging. The motorcycle could have slowed down or accelerated to get out of the blind spot too ... but that wouldn't have been as fun to watch. :D

Usually I will speed up / spend as little time in a cars blind spot as possible but this morning i'd passed nearly countless cars in a similar manner. Even though i sometimes have my finger on the horn in case of situations like this, this is the first time it's happened and it caught me off guard. I sure don't like hanging around in blind spots!

Shit drivers say... 'but i indicated'! Good spotting of a hazard there mate!

Cheers, I try to spot potential hazards before its too late but this one even caught me off guard a little being the first time and all. For a little while there I think I was used to people seeing me on a bike of my size... not anymore

Oh man I'm glad he didn't hit you. I almost got hit twice today and I was in my car which is a 4 door sedan. People just don't look.

Good thing your trigger thumb was ready on that horn! That's why I always wear as much high viz gear as possible and assume I'm invisible on the road anyways. Glad you're ok :)

I find this blind lane change to be most common when someone has already changed at least one lane and are just continuing their migration across the freeway without really looking, regardless of the fact that the next lane over is already occupied by you...
