In the past I used Paraffin to clean but I was told it could cause damage to some types of chain that has a different material used in the O links.

I've always used some brand of chain lube. I've also heard good stuff about chain wax, but I think you're supposed to take your chain off to apply it and I just don't wanna have to remove my chain every time I need to apply it.

I use a generic chain lube if and when I remember that my chain needs some attention. Thank god it's a Chinese bike and parts are cheap so I don't care too much.

I use Motul Race Spray Lube. I tried a bunch of different things on my old Suzuki and this was the best of all worlds. I clean and lube my chain every week or 500km whichever comes first.

I normally hose off the chain, then I use a brush combined with wd40 to loosen up all the dirt, then I hose it off again. One It's nice and clean I apply the lube.

I will be switching over to wax due to the amount flinging the chain lube does.

I'm bat-shit lazy to clean the chain often, but I do make sure it's lubed up. I use Q-Plus Chain Lube, cause it's pretty cheap compared to all those branded stuff like Maxima, Repsol, etc. Apart from that, it doesn't flick much so my under-tray is pretty clean, no black gunk splattered all over. Have been using it since 2010, no issues with chain or sprocket with this. They have another product that is claimed to be for motorcycles, but since it's more expensive, I just stuck with the generic one. I just feel those branded and supposedly "specially formulated for superbikes" ones are just overrated/hype.

If I do clean the chain, I use the Maxima chain degreaser, it's awesome. Expensive, but awesome. It's the only one I would spend for, cause I don't use it as often as chain lube.

This is kinda a 2-stage question. You have a cleaner and a protector. I clean with WD40. It's cheap, can be found anywhere and most importantly just melts grim, grease, surface rust almost instantly and is o-ring safe. Then I protect with whatever I have on hand...right now it's dupont wax. Never again will I use any "grease" types...that stuff is just nasty after a few weeks and sludges up. I would only use it if I was to store the bike for years LOL.

I did see an experiment about WD-40 and O-rings, where they literally soaked O-rings in different stuff for a few days (can't remember the link, sorry), the O-ring didn't get detroyed in the WD-40 (worst was the one in brake fluid that's a no-brainer), in fact there was hardly any damage. Bear in mind, they SOAKED it. In a real world scenario, you only spray it on the chain, not soak the chain. The only off side I can see is that WD-40 evaporates quite easily, so frequent application is required. To be honest, I would use WD-40 if it was cheap, but it's not, so I just stick with the Q-Plus one.

On my '74 Honda, which is a non-oring chain, I just use gear lube. A light application and let it soak in, wipe off the excess and ride.

I use chain wax because I was told it sticks to the chain better and won't fling off at high speeds.. it works for me!

I use DuPont Teflon Chain-Saver Dry Self-Cleaning Lubricant... supposed to be good stuff and I don't have a complaint about it :p . Well, except that the can seems to run out faster than anything else ~_~ , but I like it :) .

This stuff here. I've used it on 2 different bikes now and I like it better than Chain Wax.

Hey guys,

So I was curious as to who uses what when it come to there motorcycle chain. As we all know this is a key essential to our drivetrain. Ive used all of the options listed above. In my honest opinion, I believe wax is the best. Now that's just one mans opinion, I'm not a new rider either, I've been riding since I was seven, so I have about 20 years under my belt. Let me know what you prefer or whatever...
My favorite Has been BMW Chain LUBE with MOLY" is seems to last without being super sticky.

I was talking to my boss recently and he has a buddy who is a road racer and taught him that X ring is best and after every ride he just cleans it with WD40, the chains are internally lubricated so there is no reason to really do to town with all these products. my boss has followed that school ever since and he is an enduro racer so it is an interesting school of thought.
