Chain Wax Vs. Lube Vs. Wd40 Vs. Moto Oil

Hey guys,

So I was curious as to who uses what when it come to there motorcycle chain. As we all know this is a key essential to our drivetrain. Ive used all of the options listed above. In my honest opinion, I believe wax is the best. Now that's just one mans opinion, I'm not a new rider either, I've been riding since I was seven, so I have about 20 years under my belt. Let me know what you prefer or whatever...

gear box oil is actually the best going out of everything. I use lube for the road bike, it's not as messy.

I'm guessing you mean wd40 oil, not the spray which is a solvent not a lube

Actually I know people who use the spray, it doesn't makes sense at all they clean there bike chain, then spray some more and use it as a lubricant...lol.

I use DuPont Teflon Chain-Saver Dry Self-Cleaning Lubricant... supposed to be good stuff and I don't have a complaint about it . Well, except that the can seems to run out faster than anything else ~_~ , but I like it .

Bear in mind, the original and true WD40 is not a lubricant, anyone wanting to use WD40 should get the WD40 chain lube.

I'm sure most are aware of this, but just to clarify

I clean all the crap out of the chain with WD40 water dispersant and a toothbrush, then apply the wax. No point putting wax over the grit etc. that will corrode and foul up the thing

I used chain lube on my CBF600 but am now using wax with the new GSX 1250. I found I was a bit over exuberant with the lube and the wax is easier to determine the condition .. i.e you can see it better.

There no such thing as too much lube on a chain... just as long as it's clean ~

the dupont stuff is great, I love it and lasts a good long time too.

and I use this for the cleaner makes it look like new

I'm currently debating whether using the wax has been a good idea. Chain is starting to get stiff in places and I clean and wax at 1000Km intervals max. Might try the lube...

I've always used WD40 or SimpleGreen, the choice is yours... Lol. There are plenty of options, Simple Green is pretty popular.
