Best Budget Vlogging Setup?

Try to save some more and get a gopro hero 3+ Black edition.. Then you are done for a few years haha.
There is a gopro deal on the website, a refurbished one for 270euro's, comes with a remote which is worth 80euros, you can sell that one for 50euros since you can have your phone to connect with it.
That's what I've done, a little bit more money but the quality is much better than cheaper camera's imo.
saves your 150euros, comes with the same warrenty as the non refurbished ones :)

I've just picked up a Sony AS30, external mic input, full 1080p60, waterproof housing and 3 mounts for £120 from eBay
Paid £16 for a 32GB 50mbps micro SD (Good for 320mins at full HD), and £7 for a lapel mic which I've adapted to use with my open face helmet (yet to be tested)
And paid £3 for some 3M Industrial Strength Velcro to stick it on the side of my helmet.
Combine that with Windows Movie Maker (which isnt the best i know but it gets you started) and you've got a full setup for under £150
Which in my book is an absolute bargain considering the latest GoPro is £350ish
I thought it wasn't possible to use the ext mic while the as30 is inside the waterproof case?

The Hero 3+ Black is the one to go for if your brain is switched on as it's exactly the same as the 4 Silver but without the useless screen (seriously, in sunlight it's useless!) and it has a better battery life.

Edit: Out of the 3+ Black/4 Silver

Not possible because you would have to make a hole through the open/close mechanism of the case :(
You can do it, you need to remove the front part of the open/close mechanism, drill the hole which aligns with the mic port in the camera, then use duct tape or something strong to hold the front of the camera casing on, its a very common mod and the only way to use an external mic with the waterproof housing.
I haven't done mine yet but am going to and will make a how to vid and post it up :D

Sounds like motovlog meets MacGyver :D I'll be waiting for that vid because I'm still debating on getting either the as20/30 or the garmin virb.

GoPro 3 White. Takes all the accessories of the rest of the GP cameras and records a decent image. It has the 1080p resolution settings, but the camera sharpness isn't as good as say the Silver/Blacks but is less than $200. I used it last year when I started motovlogging.

best budget setup imo is any cam that can do 1080x60 then use a separate audio recorder since most budget don't support external audio

There is a new camera, called Xiaomi Yi, its VERY cheap around $65, and the video quality is quite good. However, it doesnt have a mic input. But, you can get yourself a zoom H1 and decent mic. The thing with zoom H1 is that you can fiddle with the input level, and you can monitor your voice.

Hold out for a Sony AS100V on ebay. I've seen them going for under $200. Works great. All of my videos since last fall have been with the Sony. I won't go back to Contour and I only use GoPro for the rear-facing shots.

hi guys, sorry for the lack of activity, changed jobs and in the middle of moving house.
just an update really, managed to pick up a Garmin Virb bundle for 50 notes!
came with 2 2000mah batteries and a bar mount. Luckily Mrs Mondo is a manager at an ex-catalogue kind of place and i was lucky enough to pick it up today!
Just need a new pc and some editing software now...

I'm using a Sony AS-20 that i got for $80 on eBay. Soon I'll do a vlog on the helmet mount and microphone mod that I've done. Fully waterproof.

My microphone is a $10 Sony lav mic, but I seem to have issues with noise causing the camera to turn down the mic gain. Probably need to add a sound recorder to my setup. Suggestions?
