After Effects

With the Adobe suite you don't have to render to work in another program. Adobe, After Effects and Premiere work hand in hand with the files. Powerful programs that are super compatible!

Not at all, in fact Premiere gives you the option to replace the clip (segment) you're woking on with an AE composition and opens the file in AE for you to add whatever effects etc you wanna add. It's worth getting to know the basics as it'll make your workflow that much faster!

They have some really good free templates that you can download and change aroudn to suit your needs. I have used quite a few to learn off before creating from scratch my own :-)

Anyone have a good site for free After Effect templates?

As others have said youtube is your friend BUT here be a few sites I use.

http://www.videocopilot.net/
Great for making intros and special effects.

cgpersia
.com (when it is working)
A bit on the dark net but full of resources

http://www.lynda.com/
If you at Uni/College ask your IT department about full access. Otherwise the limited free access is still worth a go.

Messy but a lot on there.

But start small using some of the presets to get your head around the workflow as it is very different to most modern film editors.

Also look at some of the plugin by http://www.redgiant.com/products/ can simplyfy a lot of your work.

Awesome, great share!

I use premiere and after effects and I start editing my footage together in premier and open the SHORT clips I want to mess around with in AE and then export them and bring them into the project in premiere.

But yes I would recommend only shortish clips in AE as it takes ages to render and export. As we speak im rendering 8 seconds of footage with 3d tracking text etc. and its estimated time is 2 hour 45!

Ive been learning AE by opening a small clip of my footage and finding a random tutorial on youtube and using it in some way on my clip which has taught me a lot.

As opposed to exporting and then bringing the exported file into Premiere, why don't use just dynamically link the work and work with both AE and PP at the same time? That would save so much time as it's far less hassle.

Also, in my experience AE renders and exports projects with lightning speed o.o

I am still at a relatively basic level with AE I will look into dynamic link straight away :) im guessing my export settings may need some tweeking, and my laptop isn't the greatest but for the time being it will do.

Thanks for the advice.

Thanks a lot, I've had ago today for my latest vid with dynamic link and it worked a treat, saved loads of time.

Just my two cents, but I would NOT advice After Effects for editing video at all. It works very badly with audio (you cannot listen to your composition with audio unless you are rendering) and it's very bulky. I'm reasonably experienced with After Effects, did alot of motion tracking and other projects in it but for vlog editing it is very cumbersome.

I have recently made the switch to Sony Vegas, and by God do I wish that I found out sooner. My editing flow is improved immensly, the preview is very fast, it renders faster and once used to it the workflow is very easy.

In essence, After Effects is not even made to cut and edit video...it's an -after effects- program. You add your effects and do the final compositing in After Effects...at least that's it's purpose.

If you haven't started using anything yet, use Vegas. If you are already using After Effects and think things could go faster/easier, try vegas! Tons of tutorials and free content available.

[edit]Adobe is also known to have very CPU/memory heavy software, I work with Adobe everyday and it's very true. Sony Vegas is only about 350MB and is much lighter on your CPU[/edit]

I have used both.... Sony Vegas is easily more user friendly and seems faster to render too. loads of places to get it aswell. I actually have a tutorial on my old graphics channel on how to get it i think for windows 7.... /FzaDesigns or /FzaDzn if you fancy looking
