Drift Mic & GoPro3+

Suburban Delinquent

A Suburban Delinquent
Will the Drift mic work with a GoPro3+? Anyone have any experience with this? After reading lots of positive reviews on the Drift external microphone I'd really like to use it. In regards to canceling out wind and engine noise I hope this is setup is a winning combo. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If not Im going to go ahead and move forward with the Olympus ME-52W, stuff it in some cotton, and dub the audio to L and R channels.

what size is the usb mic adapter on the gopro? 2.5mm? or 3,5?
drift uses a 2.5mm if i am not mistaken
if it fits in the plug, it should work

There is nothing too great about the standard drift microphone, it's just a mic matched to the circuit on the camera and it isn't even an expensive or high quality one. Just a common mic, a capacitor, some plastic, cable and connector.
It won't work properly on a gopro because the drift mic is not stereo and the gopro expects an stereo mic. You'll end up with audio on one channel only. It's nothing bad but if you don't notice that and end up uploading content in stereo with audio coming out of just one channel, you'll piss off some viewers.
Using powered mics for any "action camera" that is not a SONY is a bad idea, the camera doesn't want amplified audio in the mic input and won't like it, the audio will clip like crazy.
If you know how hard it is to properly place a mono mic inside a helmet and get good audio, you'll have twice the problems with a stereo mic. And there is no way to mount a commercial stereo mic inside a helmet, you won't get stereo audio and one channel will sound better than the other.
One solution is to DIY a stereo mic or use an adapter to connect two standard mono microphones and place them at each side of your helmet.
