Help!!!

Hi,

Im trying to tart up a 1999 kawasaki er500 for the summer so i decided to change the huge indicators for smaller ones. The new indicators are 21w bulbs the same as the old ones i took off.

For some reason now that i have fitted the new indicators they flash twice as fast. i though the indicator relay maybe faulty so bought a new one but they all still flash fast. iv wired them up the same as the original indicators.

iv checked the fuse box under the seat and they are ok. i havent checked the earth yet as i dont know where it is.

Any help will be appreciated.

Whats happening is their is Too Little power being 'Loaded' on the relay, thats why it flashes faster.
You need an 'In-Line' led Load resister. http://www.ebay.com.au/bhp/led-indicator-resistor

Or ive heard of LED Flasher relays, they allow for less current/Load.
Dont worry, that'll fix it.

I like your confidence. I sort of get the idea about l.e.d relay flashers and i would understand the need for one if i put l.e.d indicators on but iv replaced them with the same wattage bulbed indicators.

Relays can come in different Load ratings, goto the Electronics store (trade) nearest you, have all the Voltages, Watts, etc handy so as to get em to do their sums?
The Indicator Relay is constructed of pretty much x2 bits of certain metal, that reacts to heat differently, hot(current)=open, cold(NO current)=closed.
The electronic relays are different obvously, and some can be set to Load or Flash rates.

easy fix, get a bulb with higher wattage, i had same problem and had to get it sorted for MOT

I bought a l.e.d relay and it has had no effect.

Thegriffiss. Ill try a higher watt bulb but the original bulbs were 21watts and now iv changed for after market 21watt bulbed indicators they flash twice as fast.

Well well well.

The indicators i bough said they were sealed for life to preserve the bulbs. the casing said 21w bulbs but when i opened them up and got thr bulb out it said 10w. I fitted some 23w bulbs and they worked fine. I have contacted the company i bought them from to let them know what i have found. I might be able to get a refund?

Glad its fixed.
Those 'Niggly' little Gremlins u get from time to time in vehicles. Can be a pain in the butt to rectify, but allways a releif when u do.

I just gotta figure out why i keep blowing brake light fuses But mine is 30yrs old though.
Ahhhh the continuing saga... lol

But on a positive, I'd Rather be Tired than Bored!!

true. i had headaches for days not knowing what the problem was. I ready to take it to a garage to fix. thats my last resort.

id love to be able to help with your fuse problem but im useless with electrics.

You could create a thread and see if anyone knows.
