Hi All,
I don't frequent here very often but I do lurk, so the last few weeks my subs and views have jumped alot. I think mainly due to "bike reviews" which is great.
However those reviews were only because I was serious about buying a new bike, I cant keep it up its just impractical!
Those videos were super simple too, not much editing just one camera and me just rambling really, but retention is really high!
Do you guys find anything similar to this?

Reviews do seem to do better than other styles of video, except maybe for road rage and poor driving videos. My top videos would fit into these categories, easily out performing my other videos, but, like you, I just don't have the option to continue going down that path.

Review videos are a crowd pleaser. I frequent demo events because the manufacturers are trying to get the word out there. Doing a review video helps you and them.

It is much easier to attend a demo event than buy and sell bikes to make reviews. Plus you never know when you will fall for a bike that you may have not considered.

Here are my top videos for the past month and since my channel started (guess which of the lot I own)-

Aye, reviews do great. I pop them up on my channel periodically to float my regular vids. I am not a review channel, and don't want to be, but they do help gain new subs... but a lot of those new subs will only watch review vids, or will only watch the vids with the bike I reviewed in them, so mostly I tend to review my own bikes, or bikes I am interested in.

Yep, like the others said - review videos do well for motorcycle channels. Like @HippoDrone , mine is not a review channel either... and review videos do poorly for me compared to my vlogs and parts installs and some other things I've done.

@R-Rated is right - sprinkle them in as you can, attending demo events to get the rides in, and see how they do.

Late to the party for this as not on here as much as I should be.

I could be wrong (chances are pretty high in fact), but review videos would likely be easier searchable content and found as a result.

Vlogs on the other hand, aren't necessarily 'searchable'.

Therefore you're likely to gain more new viewers with reviews.

Just my two cents but I am new to all this so maybe way off the mark.

If you hear big channels talking (TP1, MF, etc) they claim they keep doing bike reviews for this very reason still.

I have never thought about that point about being searchable, but it makes a lot of sense. Also, given that a review video is very specific and someone looking for that content is looking for something very specific then the two match up great.

However, if we did a review video of something specific and folks are not searching for it as often then we might not have as good of results.

I need to test this somehow. Maybe do a review video of some really great socks for riding vs. a video titled "HOW TO FIND YOUR 10MM SOCKET THE EASY WAY" because nearly everyone searches specifically for their 10mm socket at some point.:p

The way I look at it is if you're in the market for a new bike you'll search "make model reviews" so if you have a review video for that bike, you stand a chance of being found via search.

Don't imagine many people search for "my epic trip to the south West flea market vlog".

Two extreme ends of the scale but I want to do vlog videos and trip videos, but they aren't as easily found - you have to hope the algorithm picks you up and places you Infront of someone.

However, if you make a video(s) about subjects in the niche that are searchable; how-to's, reviews, etc then you stand a chance of being found by those searching for specific and new content.

So, yes if you make a video "why do 10mm sockets always go missing..." I imagine you could get some traffic.

Again, I'm new to this, have very few subs I'm just trying to look at it logically.

Guys, when it comes to review videos, what do you prefer as spectators - an "uncut" style video or an edited one highlighting important features/moments etc.

I prefer edited. I don't want to watch someone fumble around with stuff, unless it's funny or really a flaw, that sort of thing.

For the masses, though, shorter is better. Retention editing comes in handy for reviews.

Of course, I say that... and as I type this, in a few minutes a long-ish review/setup/comparison video will go live on my channel, LOL. But there IS a lot of editing in it. :D

If I am watching a review, I really don't want any faff. So the presenter needs to keep me engaged either with snappy to the point comments, or have a fun personality that entertains... but I don't see any value on leaving in pointless breaks or gaps in commentary to just have an uncut video, they seem often a bit lazy of the creator.

Or, and I forgot this earlier... the presenter repeats themselves 10x or more in the same video... I think I get it after the first or second mention of something. Mentioning something twice means you like that feature, mentioning it 10x means you are rambling and need to cut that part.

Just my opinion, for what that's worth.
