Been a while. Was a crazy year. Took video on quite a few rides, but didn't start editing until December. I spent time learning about YouTube, channels, editing, etc. I should have started editing right away cuz I'm seeing problems with my footage that make it difficult to make some sections smooth. I would have adapted throughout the year. Instead, I have a huge backlog of ride videos that are difficult to edit into a good video. I'm managing for the most part, but let's just say I'm looking forward to my broken foot healing so I can go out and take better video this year.
One of the videos I was considering for this week's release used a different setup. My chin mount had failed, so I ran my main camera on the handlebars with a cable to the mic in the helmet. Then I also ran an Insta360 on the other side of the bars for POV and 360. The problems with that are many....
I have to reframe a ton to make it usable.
Once it's reframed, the time code will be different, so syncing it up to the other camera will be difficult.
I usually just use the 360 for special shots here and there, but using it as a main camera is really a bad idea due to the amount of work reframing will be. Perhaps using the mobile app might make that easier, despite all the xfer times.
I launched my channel 2 weeks ago and have 6 videos and several shorts up so far. Definitely some rough spots, but each video has sections at least that I think work well, given my lack of experience. I'm pretty happy with my audio, but having been a musician with a home recording setup for many years, I have a leg up on that. I understand mic positioning, etc. I'm using a $20-30 movo mic. Sounds pretty good for a cheap mic shoved into the side of my helmet.
Using a GoPro 7 on the handlebars typically, GoPro10 on my helmet and the Insta360, which moves around depending on the bike I'm riding. I'm favoring my F800GS since there are so many ways to mount a camera on it. My Harley and Multistrada are not as versatile as the Apocalypse Bike.
I managed a 2 week ride out to Colorado and back in Sept and a 3 day ride in the Sierras in October (when I broke my foot). Hopefully some good videos can come from those, but I'm waiting to do the big projects until I've got a vew more videos under my belt.
I would love to hear feedback, advice, etc.
