Bluring your speedo in vids

I blur my speedometer whenever my speed accidentally breaks the "10 over" point, just in case. Between the GoPro fisheye lens and alternate camera views, I don't worry much.

At this point, it only takes a little bit of time to do the blur, so I blur it out. If anyone's using Davinci Resolve and wants a tutorial on it, I did a blur & track video on my channel recently.

That's cool you can blur out the speedos so fast. If I'm lazy I can blur out the speedo pretty fast if I make the blur box or censor box really really big so when my helmet moves around it's still blurring out the speedo even if I don't motion track. If I want to make the blurry box nice and clean that takes a while.

You could always do a slow ride, but paste in a speedo showing 400kph !

Different countries will have different laws and enforcement.. Over here at one point there was a hype about high speed riding because some dumb-f decided to show off his talents blasting on a bridge in a very short time (high speed obviously), the reason it became hype was because it was a pandemic lockdown time so a lot of f-ing netizens (I hate netizens) having to work from home and stuff so they are too free and caught on to that dumb-f speeding video and of course it went viral so as usual the police only take action on viral stuff, ended up catching the guy, I think was just paying a fine or something, most likely some bribery was involved to hush down the penalty. After that the momentum was to start targeting other people who was high speed videos and everyone got scared and hid/private their clips. After that the next hot potato was people doing wheelies going viral and again our beloved viral police decided to take some action.

For myself, I use the privacy sticker for mobile phone on the speedo but I don't think it works that well just dim the display a bit but as long as it does something I guess it's better than nothing. Doesn't work at night though as the display is lit up so it's bright.

We're in a whole new world over in Oz. In my state we have a fixed wing plane now to go with the helicopter. The helicopter has limited time to follow the 'hoon' drivers (as they're called here) which is a shame because it's a horrendous problem in some area's. But the plane can stay up for over six hours, unfortunately they're targeting bikes (some of which have added to the death toll on our roads too much recently), and also 'innocent' decent riders if there's nothing else catching their eye. Imagine you're out for a spirited ride in the sticks/country, no one around, you're honing your skills, in the twisties ... not speeding but enjoying the sport and you grab a bit of a wheelie out of a corner towards the next curve, up above ... five kilometres high it's all caught on video and the plane follows you ... directing a patrol to your location. They pull you up and impound your bike for a month, fine you and leave you stranded. All for a wheelie. True story. From someone in the know.

They've gone the other way 'round here ... if you're speeding, they have "no chase" rules. They'll jot down a license plate and send you a ticket. The police are literally not allowed to chase anyone.

I can't imagine them employing helicopters to chase speeders.

The plane is so police don't have to chase. It basically keeps out of sight and can follow any vehicle until it stops, great for catching crooks or following stolen vehicles without influencing their driving negatively. It's just bad that it could be used to target the wrong motorists. It's also got the ability to travel much farther ... getting a helicopter to remote locations very difficult but a plane is cheaper to run and fly.

Yeah, there's a place & time... and a school zone ain't it. Gotta find those deserted industrial areas! Not that I do wheelies on my 900lb Harley though LOL.

Here is my take on it, from Canada. Cops here are pretty much only interested in busting those going more than 30kms over. With that said, on a bike it's VERY easy to go 30 kms over without even trying. It's not being reckless, it's just the bike. Most decent bikes can do 0-60 in the same time as a Lambo. If I ever got a ticket in the mail from a cop that watched my vid because I was 30 or so over, I would definitely fight it. He would first have to prove what the speed limit was at that exact time, exactly where I was, and I can easily claim I was just finishing passing a slow moving vehicle. It's like the license plates. People often blur them in vids, to hide their identity I suppose? To what end? Anyone with any savvy can quickly figure out who you are even without the plate, plus they would have to have access to police computers to look up a plate number. So why would a cop be trying to id me? I have nothing to hide and I'm sure they could find me if they wanted. So, back to the speeding, unless you are breaking the 50+ barrier, I wouldn't worry too much. If you record yourself doing 160 in an 80 zone, well, then you deserve to get charged.

Whilst wide awake suffering insomnia at 0130hrs this morning I realised something (because this is how I live my life) ... having got a digital speedo on my T7, there's a little adjustment that changes KMH to MPH ... now being in a country where they use the metric system when looking at speed (and potentially in this case our speedometers) I could just flick it over to MPH when I feel like a bit of spirited riding and recording. I doubt very much that my video quality would be such that any suspicious eyes would see a tiny little 'mph' in the corner. So when doing say 100 ... I'd actually be seen to be doing 60 (well 62). obviously I can't condone such a way of hindering justice and flouting traffic laws but an interesting little workaround maybe LOL

Nice idea! Slightly related... I filled up the gas tank on my truck the other day, and must've pressed the wrong button when I reset the trip odometer... well, it switched the digital speedometer to KPH... so it said I was doing 60 going down the road by my house. I was like WTF? Then I realized it was in KPH and had to laugh at myself. So, don't forget to switch it back after you're done recording?
