Obligatory bike pic.

I am from Tennessee, The new bike is a 2020 HD Road Glide Limited. We totaled out a 2018 Road Glide Ultra last May.
That Picture is the day she came home.

Why am I here? Well I found this site today. I just bought my first Gopro and want to video some of my upcoming vacation to Key West, So I am looking for Info to help me succeed. After watching many motovlogs on youtube I am interested. We do a lot of Big group rides every year and I take a lot of pictures and want to grow from that by adding and editing video of these rides.

Welcome - there is a distinct lack of Harley riders in this group, or so I think ... but welcome from a Street Glide Special rider! :D

Nice bike, btw.

Also, ask away. We're here to help!

While we're at it, here are some questions/things to think about:

1. Which editor to use? Most here seem to use Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, or Davinci Resolve. Personally, I'm a Davinci Resolve guy, and if that's the one you picked, I'm happy to say I am doing a series of vids on my channel about doing things in DR, and am happy to answer any questions I can answer right here on the Forum.

2. Which GoPro? Which Mic? Which accessories/mounts? Again, I've done a "what have I spent on moto vlogging" video on my channel, which may give you some ideas. I also have some Moto Vlog Gear Setup vids, mostly related to using a half helmet to record vlogs. Moto Mengy is another one who rides a faired bike - and he gets away with NO external mics! If you're using a full-face helmet, the others can help you out better than I can.

3. How deep down the rabbit hole do you want to go? I am in so far that only a few can help me out of here... I could use some company. :D

Good luck and RIDE SAFELY!

I generally jump in with both feet. I am using a half helmet. Right now the helmet hasd a Sena / Boom K30 bluetooth on it to work with the bike and the CB. I havent found any valid ways of using this mic for vlogging but maybe someone has a trick. I am looking to purchase a Tascam DR05x to record audio but that will have to wait till after vacation.

I ordered a RickRak mount for the Road Glide Windshield screw, with with the clamp and the fender bolt options.

I have Adobe and have played a little with the Premiere Rush but am still lost on what to do. I just have to sit down with it for a bit and havent had time.

The Gopro is a Hero 9 Black.

I so far have have a couple of SD cards, 3 Batteries, the spare charger, the floating handle kit that came with the bag, head mount and the clip for a hat.

And I made the decision a week ago to pull the trigger on all this.

Hope that gives you an idea of where i am at.

You sound a lot like me! I jumped in full force last year when I decided I wanted to do this moto vlogging thing!

Seriously, I have a very similar setup - half helmet and all, so you really want to check out my videos. My channel link is in my signature block below this post... have a look-see at the "Moto Vlog Gear Setup" playlist, lots of good info. there for ya!

If you haven't edited video before, I highly recommend Davinci Resolve. There's a free version that you can download and install, and there are a number of us here on the forum using it, so we can assist. If you want to stick with PP, that's fine too - there are plenty of tutorial videos on YouTube that'll get you going.

Welcome!

I use a half helmet from time to time. I put the mic for the camera with the boom mic for the headset. However, since these cameras drain batteries fast I would suggest running yours mounted on the fairing and have it powered from the bike. You can then use an external audio off your helmet mic and clap to sync the audio.

Just an idea.

@Bbeck3174 how did you total out your last bike? I hope no physical injuries to anyone other than the bike.
I was coming around a curve and a Postman left a mailbox to pull in a driveway across on his left. He never looked up and pulled out in front of me. We hit him head on, flipped over the bike and car down to the pavement. We were pretty beat up, My wife just finished PT from a shoulder surgery from the accident.
We were very lucky. We both walked away! I had a fireman take her home and I rode the bike back to the house. we were less than a mile away.

Oh my!

I hope the shoulder heals well. I am still coping with my left shoulder from getting rear ended a couple of years ago.

My latest crash

I did not feel any injury until a few days later and then it was just a sore neck. The bike recovered. It cost the driver's insurance nearly the price of a new bike.

With 90k miles at the time of the crash, I couldn't stand the thought of losing my faithful steed.

Yeah with it being a front end hit I wouldn't have trusted repair and was happy they totaled mine. Hopefully this one will last a long time.

Glad to hear you both are okay. Your 2018 looks like the same or similar color my 2016 was:
