Different Angles While Riding

I just sync visually, pick a post or sign at the side of the road and go from there. Lightworks has some nifty multi-cam editing options too, which can make it even easier, but it needs a powerful PC especially for multiple 4k.

I have tried audio sync in the past too, which works fine too.

I kinda figured this one out when I was almost finished editing my last video. I wish I would've thought about it earlier in the edit. Oh well, always next time.

Multiple cameras sounds like fun, but its double the work, and double the storage space on the computer, plus you need to get your hand clap down, or make a loud noise so it comes up on both cameras so you can line up the footage later in post edit. This is if you plan on using the two cameras in one video. I have never personally done it, but I have tried lining up multiple sounds clips but it is hard. I'm still learning this whole thing so that is just my two cents. Ride safe out there!

I just posted a vid this morning where I used four cameras on my bike. Used two claps but I couldn't get it in the view of all the cameras at once, so I beeped the horn to help synch everything up.

Everything works out.

Wow, that is a good idea! A horn beep would be really audible across all the cameras.

It's really not too hard to set up. Once you have all the footage synched up in the timeline it's a lot of fun to edit. If possible, use an external hard drive to store your footage on. When I'm editing I say my project files to yy external too, making my laptop's workload a little easier.

with alot of programs having a multi camera feed option you can pretty much live switch while watching, i know davinci and vegas have it as iv used both, premier will have it too. makes the process after synching up the feeds a walk in the park.

I'm using iMovie currently and what I did on the latest video I edited was to sync the two angles first. I then made all my cuts(dead air) to both clips in order to keep everything synced. Then I went back and trimmed the second camera footage. It's probably not the most efficient way, but iMovie has its limitations.

I'm thinking of downloading Davinci Resolve. I watched a couple tutorials and it seems like it might be much easier to do this.

i honestly cant reccomend davinci enough, its surprisingly simple for powerfull free software. being that its free theres really no reason not to atleast give it a go, people used to just use it for colour correction, but now its a fully functional editing suite, even does audio(never tried it).

Its double the storage yes, but personally once I have uploaded a video to youtube I delete all the raw files anyway - I've got everything useful from them I want at that point.

As for sync, I do it visually based on a post or similar at the side of the road - pretty much anything will do to get it within a frame either way. Once that's done (takes about a minute now I've got a method) I import all of the media files and then cut them all together, after that you end up with everything remaining in sync and then you just have the fun of choosing when to swap angles in the final edit.

It helps that if I am doing a specific topic I tend to hit record once. Obviously if you start and stop your cameras a lot then you have to sync multiple times.

I use multiple cams: clap a few times when I start recording and FCPX makes it easy to make a sync'ed Multicam video out of all the footage

dude even just starting the engine works, if you turn on all your cams prior to that. rev your engine a bit - no need for a revbomb, 3000rpms will do the trick

it'll make for a nice big audio spike.

I was using a clap but now with more cameras not all record audio and some are mounted out of reach while sitting on bike so have found a mix of a quick beep of the horn while waving hand across other camera seems to be working ok
