Made myself a new cam mount

Picked up a new helmet, now to mount the cam. I’m not sure why nobody makes this stuff, I made a mount out of some scrap aluminium, attached it with 3M tape. Here was the process.

It’s round aluminum with a stainless threaded insert, lol. That’s just how it happened.

Personally I wouldn't want a metal bolt attached to my helmet, but each to their own, and it's just my opinion. It's a neat solution for sure and good to see someone else who knows how to make stuff!

I know what you mean, I had concerns about metal. I wanted to make this whole thing out of plastic but working with metal was just easier. I figure with the width of the piece in the event of an accident it’s unlikely to pierce the helmet. I have the same size aluminum and plastic bolts to give the cam the ability to break away. I’ll probably change it to a plastic bolt, thanks.

You can achieve the same result in a safer manner using moldable glue like Sugru, no need to attach anything metal to your helmet. But its your choice! The AGV helmet I use has a very pointy chin on it and it worked great.

Old thread I know but im new here and new to vlogging so trying to read and pick up as many tips as I can from you more experienced guys.

Really like how this looks, if painted black would be much more stealth when camera is off the helmet compared to some of the over the counter chin mounts.. May look at doing this when my new purpose build vlogging helmet parts arrive this week

Is Sugru stuck directly to the helmet or juwt moulded and then stuck to helmet with 3M tape?

My concern is that in the first instances it would probably be considered a modification to the helmet here in Aus (illegal) whereas normally stick on cameras are 'kind of' legal.

I stick it directly to the helmet, but I guess you could put some clingfilm between it and the helmet but it might then bond to that. I do it directly to the helmet as it is a strong bond
