Horns

My horn does not work. I never really use it. Not sure I want to pay to get it fixed. Your thoughts?

But is it even worth it? And when I get it maintenance do I even mention it? Do othe riders use horns regularly? I use mine once a year to homl at a hot car and give a thumbs up.

I use mine errday.

HONK! to call a rider.
HONK! a driver to let em know I'm lanesplitting.
HONK! to tell the dude he really shouldn't cross the road when there's 50,000 2 tonne boxes plowing through his direction.
HONK! for nice ass.

I use mine all the time. One of my most important riding tools. I always cover it when there’s a threat of a left hand turner.

Is it the horn itself, that is not working? Try it out with jumper cables. If that's not it, start checking the switch and buttons. Maybe it is a simple connection problem, and you don't need to replace anything.

Don’t be without a horn. Lifesaver. What you gonna do when someone is reversing in to you from a parking space?

A few dollars to replace, or check the wire hasn’t come out the terminal connector.

Definitely get it fixed. Worth it just in case of emergency, plus should be cheap to replace (first make sure its broken).

As Hippo says a horn is a legal requirement in the UK. Personally I just replace it. Most are one bolt and two connectors so it would take about 5 mins.

As for myself I tend to tap it twice to say farwell to people when I leave a bike night. Sometimes when a driver pisses me off

Even in most states in the US a working horn is a legal requirement. Although it's rarely enforced unless you really piss off the cop. For safety's sake I would definitely repair it

The UK has like an unwritten rule of

If we pull you for being a dick, we'll do you for a smaller plate, measure your tyres and too loud exhaust (which can force a new MOT). They’ll also take ages with the insurance company to make sure everything that isn’t standard is marked as insured, even a sticker which technically is modified... the legal books coming.

The other hand is - we’ll turn a blind eye to the smaller plate, barely legal track tyres and not bother that the baffle you’ve removed after the MOT has ‘got stolen’ unless you be a dick

Similar in South Africa. If you are calm and not cocky to the cops, they'll let you get away with a few things. But be a dick, ha they'll write out 12 fines. Onus is on you to go to court and prove the cop was wrong. I fully get it, your job is standing in the hot son and then some dick gets cocky with you. I'm always super nice to cops, but then again we should all just be nice to our common man, cop or not.
