Anyone else getting this message from YouTube concerning channels below 1K?!?!

Very disappointing. I'd have to triple my subs and double my monthly watch time. Doubt I can do that in 30 days.

I have even more work ahead of me, but if I didn't enjoy making these videos I would have stopped by now thanks to YT. I'll keep doing what I'm doing and hopefuly people will start coming :)

Yup, got the same message last night. I have the watch time, but I need to x4 my sub count. It really sucks because I am only $3 away from the $100 payout mark and Im not sure if I will hit it by Feb 20. Just another knife in the side of small creators, discouraging them from trying to break into the massive YT market.(if they are doing it just for the money, which is a stupid reason) I will continue to do what I have been doing, because I enjoy it as a hobby. I get more enjoyment out of meeting new people rather than the prospect of making money.

From what I read, any money earnt (even if below the $100 minimum) will be paid out by YouTube.

That would be good but if they continue to run ads and not share the crumbs with small creators then how is that fair? They clearly will be marketing the content to advertisers still.

I just ended my monetisation after seeing this. I'm making nothing out of it anyway, I'm sure the money I had has gone down for some reason. A few cents here and there is nothing really, I've not put anything out for ages as I'm too busy, but I've unchecked the box to allow ads alongside my videos.

If they're not prepared to support people from the off, I'm not prepared to allow them to serve adverts on my videos, it works two ways. I don't mind that there's minimum levels to enable monetisation, but if you have a video that could go viral, then by the time you've enough views it will be too late to gain much by the time they approve your account.

Something else to consider which will affect the majority of us more than the demonetization, is the loss of features, it looks like we will no longer be able to post custom thumbnails which really sucks as the 3 I am usually offered are normally terrible. This will negatively affect us, as folk don't click on videos with crap thumbnails!

Do you mean like this?:p

Being cheeky, but seriously what if we use the YT Studio app. It may be locked out too.

However considering some of the recent trend of big channels making the thumbnail look like a literal cut and paste in kindergarten class, the random thumbnail is not a bad choice.

I really hope that isn't what happens. That might be the last straw for me with this whole thing. Why would they limit our creativity? What am I being punished for YouTube?

Two possible outcomes I see:
1) After a bit of whining everyone will settle and just continue on the old path. This is the more likely version.
2) Creators will start finding other platforms, they will be scattered around, to different ones and most viewers will lose the convenience, of finding everything from the same source. Creators will lose lots of viewers, at least in the beginning, who will oppose the new platforms.

Meanwhile I, a beginner with nothing to lose, will grab my popcorn, and see where it all goes.

Edit: Are you sure the thumbnails will go? Because I can use custom thumbnails, and I can not monetize my videos yet.

Or option C. a bit of cheeky open revolt such changing my sticker on the windscreen from "AS SEEN ON YOUTUBE" to "AS SHAFTED ON YOUTUBE".

Another option is to use the end screen and info card options to our advantage such making a video talking directly to the viewer and then linking it as suggested viewing. Same for intro and exit clips.

Looks like the tech world has a keen interest on how this plays out. After all, how many tech review videos are there?

I didn’t spot it say about thumbnails, they were never linked to monetisation? Seems dumb not allowing custom ones, it has no bearing on monetisation issues?

As for people going elsewhere, they won’t. There’s no credible platform that has a viewer base where small folk like us can get partnerships in revenue. Most of us get the views because of recommended videos under what we’re watching, we’re not really advertising to anyone outside vloggers. You may get views and subs from here or other forums, but it’s not in any numbers that will generate interest for folk to skip YouTube.

Motovlogging is a minority niche, we’re a drop in the ocean.

Only way YT will pay any attention is if every one who has a few subs and bas the odd thing up walks, or maybe disables ads at the side, but even then...

I KNEW IT!

Jist kidding. Like I wrote previously the email from YouTube has 0 criteria that his channel would not have easily met so...why are they doing this again?

Easier to whip all the little folks vs. busting the big guys causing the problem. After all, if he made 12.5 million then how much did the platform make?

PS. YouTube sat by until the real media caught on and called them then they supposedly spanked Mr Paul. Interestingly enough, I do believe he still has his channel when I peeked this morning as well as (surprise surprise) a healthy subed music channel?
