Got Me A Skeleton Case For My Camera. Never Felt Better About It!

So guys, I got a skeleton case for my Firefly 6s (which can fit any gopro 3/4 cases). No more bulky waterproof cases... That thing is light now. Also slapped a UV lens filter, just to protect the actual lens from any debris or particles flying from the oncoming traffic.

You guys should absolutely go ahead and grab one!

Love mine, until it rains. Then not so much.

Wish they could come up with a waterproof case with a way to plug in the external mic. Then I will be happy.

Put a polyethilen bag over it or something. Only let the lens out. Should be fine for the most part.
I usually don't ride when it's raining so it's not a big problem for me really. You could also just put it in your bag while it rains. Not the best solutions really but it's not a dealbreaker. I think in fact I'm contempt with giving that away but gaining thinner and lighter camera

Yeah, I hate the bother of changing it.

I don't have the luxury too often of choosing what weather I ride in.

My wife and I have a car and a bike. She's expecting, and she gets the car to take to work. Bright side is, she won't be working for a year come December, and hopefully our roads won't be hazardous before then.

I see where you're coming from. Luckily I do have a car at my disposal and riding is more of a fun thing I choose to do every other day. I'm greatful at being able to choose between the two... sometimes I might even just go by foot. Living in the downtown has its own benefits

It does.

Living in a smaller city who's economy has been based on the automotive industry for decades, resulting in the most gimped out public transit system can be frustrating.

When my wife and I go up to Toronto/York Region to visit her sister, I make sure we do something that requires public transit as much as we can.

As for "having to ride" I can't really complain, I started late, and just want to make up for lost time. At least the rain takes away some of the midwestern mugginess.

Pic of it? I guess I also use skeleton type housing obviously for the mic cable.. I try to cover up some parts of the opening, and if it rains, I don't worry much about the cam getting wet.

I threw up a few pics of my setup in another thread.

I can't remember which one though lol, but I think it had something to do with pics of our gear.

Pics are here!

That looks like a really good fit.

Do the LEDs all line up as well? My top recording LED is a little bit off. It's ok though because I usually use the back one, which I can just barely see over the chin bar.

It all lines up. I had to make new holes on the side, there are two buttons and those were getting mashed by the case. So I made 2 holes with a soddering iron, then filed it around. They were not reachable by the fingers, so I stuck some cardboard in the hole and stuck tape over it. Now I have pushable buttons. Looks pretty slick too. Too bad it's not depicted here.

There's one LED on the top as well as on the front. The one on the top is visible while I have the helmet on, it's not in my FOV and isn't bright enough to be distracting (hard to notice under the sun even). It surprisingly helps a lot to see if the recording is going on.

I like the mobile app for my camera, though I'm sure other cameras have better ones.

I've had a few instances where I didn't hear the beep and was not recording when I thought I was and realized I'd just spent 20 minutes having the best practice vlog ever. It's ALWAYS when you nail it too.

On the other hand. I tend to stare at it too much (not completely but my video ends up in my video way too often and I'm not smart enough to just shut the hell up for a few seconds when I check it).

It will be more useful when I get my charge+mic adapter in.

Ahhh I hear ya. Yeah that has happened to me a few times too. But usually I don't have a problem with that. I live/ride in a downtown for the most part so there's tons of traffic lights and intersections and stops. That means a lot of the times i have to cut out a minute of me standing in the intersection waiting for a green light. That's when I get to check it in my mirrors. But the new case allows me to mount it in such a way that I can see the blue led on the top blinking while i ride.

Yeah that's always a good thing.

Sometimes I think I need to stop/start my camera when i'm at lights to avoid the dreaded 4GB cutoff.

It always seems to happen when I make my best point and I end up losing like 3 seconds of video
