Hey again everyone, seems like I am on a roll with the commenting all of a sudden. So, I recently decided to give the YouTube channel a good old fashioned make over to include revamping of my channel art and profile picture. I have limited artistic talent and experience with programs like photoshop, so I tend to do all of my designing on Pic Monkey.

How important is having catchy artwork? Does it really help in drawing in subs, or is more for personal flair? Anyone care to take a look at my channel and let me know what you think lol (See sig for channel URL).

So just some context, I had a wild mustache for a while, wear aviators, and am an enormous douchebag lol....The channel are is the result of these characteristics.

I'd say its quite important, your's is too busy visually for my taste. Look at what the bigger channels does. They usually have some kind of photo or texture for their background. And above all they make sure any text is easily readable. Further they don't focus on cramming more than one or two messages into that space. They also pay attention to the use of colors, being careful with the selection.

I recommend reading up a little on graphic design for some insight and then give the banner/profile pic another shot.

I think it's important, not so much for drawing in subscribers, but for branding, making it easy for people to know this is one of your vids. If they like you (hopefully they do :) ) that brand recognition will draw them in to watch more of your stuff.

I wouldn't mind sprucing my channel logo up a little bit, but I'll keep the same basic design. Maybe some minor updates for "season 2," whenever that is!

I don't think it being 'catchy' is actually a big deal at all but I do think it needs to look semi professional and blend in.

For example, Mine is as basic as can be but it's simple and clean. Fonts are constant throughout the page and there's links to my social media. People are fine with channel art as long as it looks like it's been thought of, I think. There are a lot of channels where it's just a blurry picture of a bike outside someone's house next to the bins.

This is true, simple I think is better in this sense....I might have to refine my brand a little.

I think it's more of a personal flair more than anything, but at the same time it can draw people to check out your channel more as well. I would be more inclined to check someone's videos out if they had a more solid logo/channel art at first glance. (This is if I happened to come across their channel and not stumble across a video first.) Now I totally wouldn't judge someone over that though. Their content is king, but their branding is part of their overall content creation so I think people should spend a lot of time on it.

Depends on what kind of people your after. Your current art would in no way make me want to sub as its not the kind of stuff I would want to watch just going by that.

All up to you, I'd say you will get more subs from that kind of art than going with something more classy. But then you have to make the debauchee content to match to keep them in.

One thing I've enjoyed about my rather simple logo is how easily I've been able to use it on all platforms (YouTube, FB, Twitter, Amino, etc.) as I've spread out a bit. Since a big part of my "persona," for lack of a better word, is the stereotypical Dunkie's drinking jerk from Massachusetts, the name and the logo pretty much say it all!

Talking generally, I don't think its that important to have a big 'brand name'
In fact it may end up looking too commercial and alienate the viewers.

I think you've got a good design overall but the green is way too bright for me.

Yeah my green is a little too ridiculous atm lol...Might change the lettering up a little.

Your brand is VERY important for you. Although your current logo may seems a little "busy" as mentioned by F4celess, I think it's a good position to be simplified, keep your key features like the shades and stash, I'm sure you'll come up with a good spin on it if you want to.
