Wind Noise...

I'm constantly plagued by wing noise in my recordings. I've tried a few different Mic's, placed wind covers over the mic. I feel like I am getting close to a good set up BUT 40-50 mph is about top speed. Even at 35 its still an annoyance. If I attempt to talk louder it becomes too much for the mic and my voice sounds is audible but is static sounding. Anybody else have this issue? any ideas on correcting?

In general, no matter what you do with foam, etc, you can't stop all wind noise. Dedicated foam and fur windscreens are designed to block wind on a static mic, not one moving at 60 mph. You hat to get the wind off of the mic completely to get rid of it. To do this, you need to move the mic out of the wind or use a solid object to block the wind in the helmet.

To move the mic, many people put it behind a cheek pad. But this will affect the sound of the mic. Your audio will generally shift toward the bassy end of the spectrum. To just block the wind from the mic where its at, just use a small piece of plastic or something between the mic and the windy side. hell, cut up a Solo cup and tape it on. A flat piece may not be completely successful as it can cause noise itself and disrupt airflow enough to possible still divert it into the mic. Curved or otherwise purposely shaped to move the air around the mic is best.

Well it is currently behind my cheek pad, and for the most part completely incased behind the pad. I wonder if I placed a layer of duct tape around the mic to seal out the air would make a difference. possibly muffle my voice a little? the motto vlog struggle seems endless lol

i put my mic in front of my mouth. there is a little cubby there where there is a vent for air to come in from. i just taped it off and i don't really notice much noise. you can hear the bike good and hear other people talking to me from their bike.

How bad is the wind noise? i mean is it drowning out your voice bad or is it you can hear it in the background bad?

Well it's pretty strong doesn't quite drown me out but makes it difficult to hear me at times.

Get a different helmet? What bike do you ride? Is is a naked with no wind protection or a sports?
The helmet could very well be my problem, I may have to look into a new one. When I bought it I never even considered that one day I'd want to Motovlog. It's an HJC modular style helmet
