hi, i found out the sony action cam has no audio setting and even with external mic it normalize the sound,
i put the mic in the cheek pad and it capture good quality audio only it clip if i speak too loud and i don't like it.
any idea where i should put the mic?

It's getting technical, but I think what you really want to do (aside from stuffing your mic into the cheekpad of your helmet, is to attenuate the signal.

One of the other chaps on here did a fine job explaining how he made a diy attenuator for pennies. I think it was Shirou. Just search microphone attenuator or something around those words.

You could also try shrouding the mic. Essentially protecting it from the noise. Buy then you run the risk of chopping out certain frequencies which can leave you with muffled or screechy sound.

I'm running a Sony external mic in the cheek pad area, with my AS-20 cam, but last night when out doing a "test vlog" on my 454, which is somewhat louder than my Connie, I found that my sound completely goes away while riding at speed. But only until I slow down, then I can hear everything, until I get moving again and the sound fades out...

??

I have an AS100 with a Sony ECMCS3. I took the lapel clip off (yep, just snapped it off like a Boss!) and took a 1"x2" piece of foam (stole that from the wife's crafting supplies), wrapped it with a couple loops of electrical tape, added a piece of velcro to it and the other side to right in front of my lips in the helmet! looks like crap but does pretty good for me! Here's the amazon link to the $20 mic (got mine from amazon warehouse deals for $12 as an open box) http://amzn.to/1DQqEx2

You can check my videos to see how the sound and wind noise is for you. But here's a picture...ain't pretty but neither is the bike or myself..fits right in ;)

It's because of the auto gain control turningthe volume down because of the wind noise. At least that's what happens with mine. Though I've split the stereo signal across two mics so one is outside and the other is inside my helmet. So when I'm at anything over 50MPH everything goes quiet until I speak, then because my speech is louder than the wind it picks it up again. It's a handy feature, most of the time, but it would be good to have more control of the gain on the Sony cameras.

Sounds like I need a different mic placement other than my cheek pad. I wear earplugs so i'm not really aware of how loud it is inside the helmet. The modular design probably makes it worse.

use the drift hd mic... it works really well with my sony as100v
I've checked the Drift HD Mic, it seems to be a mono mic from what I can tell, please correct me if Im wrong.

Sony is not selling the ECM-CS3 here in my country, buying abroad would be very expensive. I have just found out that Drift also has a retail store here, shoot them an email inquiry about the 3.5mm mic and just waiting for a response if they have those on stock.

Is that a problem? There's no point in a stereo mic in your helmet, and it takes half a second to duplicate the mono track to both channels in your editor or audacity.

For me atleast, My editor is only WMM as of the moment :(. It's audio editing options is limited. (still saving for a decent editor)
