At the moment I'm researching into buying a larger bike, currently I'm riding a 2013 ninja 300. I have had a few friends say that I should get a ZX10R, but then I have also had people tell me I should get the ZX6R, so I don't have such a large jjumped in cc's. Can anyone throw in some of their two cents?

Bikes as quick as you want it to go... Whatever the CC

How goods your wrist?

Zx6 are wicked and if ridden right, will chase down a 1000c bike, on the bends

Zx1000 is an animal of a bike and 1000s make you lazy on the gears etc.

1000s are fun

I don't think I'm terrible with my wrist. My downshifting can be improved a little bit(I've only been riding since October 2015.) But I love shifting, and if the 1000 is going to make me do it less, I might get annoyed.

But the 1000 and just get training on the downshift?

A 1000 won't be as friendly or forgiving on the odd wrong gear.... Well unless it's got a slipper clutch

True, I just was wondering if a 1000 is actually worth it. From my understanding the ZX6R and ZX10R are basically the same thing, just different engines, correct?

Don't be a pussy get the 1000

If you get the 6 every time you see the 10 you will wish it was you.

Do you only ride at 20 or something, or do you just like the engine high reving.

Third gear on a gsxr or fireblade is like 140 mph + :)

I change gear when I need to change gear, just before red

Why that does make sense on a track surely if you ride "just before red" on the street you wouldn't get it out of 1st gear. ;)

Get the one that speaks to you more. They are all good.

After having 600s and a lot of literbikes, and now only a Grom...in the end it doesn't really matter what you get. Sit on them and see how they feel. You won't outgrow a 600 like some people say and neither can be ridden to the max on the street anyway.

I love the weight of the 600s, I love the raw power and powerband of a 1000cc. Get what you like more.

Can't compare the ZXR, but comparing the 675 and 1050 Triumph engines and bikes, the 675 was lighter and more nimble, made up lots for the power.

Thanks, I'll see if my local Kawi dealership allows test rides, and set one up. If not, I'll just go sit on the bikes and pretend! :D

I second that. I have seen people in other forums complain exactly about that. They wanted to be mindful and not overshoot too quickly. they all regret it in the end and wished they would just have made the jump right away.

yes the 6er is slighlty more nimble, but it gets so weary having to always ride it in the red to have sufficient power to keep up.
I love my 10R and i always will :)

I would suggest the 600 simply due to the power. I have a zx10r and i love it, but it definitely takes a few years of experience to be able ride a 1000. Like the others have said, if ridden correctly, a 600 can keep up well with a 1000, until you hit about 250km/h. ;P I've seen way too many people buy bikes with way more power than they can handle and almost always end up crashing because they simple can't hand the power and dont have the experience at such high speeds in the corners.

How about get the 1000cc and set the power to low (or some reduced setting) then you can "have" a 600 and then enable full power when you are ready for it? :)

This ^ .

If you ride with modesty and treat bikes with respect, no reason the 1000 will be too "big" for you...

If you are a bit of a racer and every vehicle on the roads is an obstacle to get past, best go for a 600.
The 1000 might get you into a lot of trouble, a little quicker.

There's also the bike weight aspect. Would your stature suit a big 1000, or might it be a bit cumbersome/heavy to handle?

Edit: I ride a 6 and don't see why I'd be "jealous" pulling up next to a 10. I'm just happy to be out riding a nice bike, and would acknowledge him as another biker. Bike size snobbery wouldn't come into it. ;)

Really depends on how often you can afford to take the bike to a track, or race it somewhere.

Personally I'm aiming to buy a ZX-6R, because it is more bang for my buck. With a ZX-10R, i'll be stuck on 2nd or 3rd gear almost all the time, never go faster than a ZX-6R, but still end up paying more for the bike, as well as for gas.

Might as well get a cheaper ZX-6R since I'm limiting the amount of performance being used to a certain cap.

YMMV, go for the ZX-10R if you're tracking a lot.
