I'm a bit worried about the contrast between your logo and the background. Mainly because of the "chain" being a dark gold color.
I'd darken the area around the logo and make the chain white to match the rest.

I'll give it ago now :) had to play with the background alot by bluring and other effects so it didn't look so vivid and block out the text/logo to much. But see what you're saying about the "chain" colouring.

A good deal better. Not digging the noise, could be less prominent or at least monochromatic.

Use Levels (Image>Adjustment) to boost the darks of the image. Enhancing the logo.
Levels are also usefull when editing footage. Worth learning about.

Did a quick pass to show the effect. Left is original.

On further consideration. I'm not sure if having a stylized font on the chain is a good move. It makes the design messier with small unreadable text.
Remember, in Photoshop you can create a path, and then apply text that follows the path. Play around with that and see if the chain can follow the shapes more.

Really appreciate the advice and help, so first of all thank you! I'll tweek this in the morning as much prefer your level adjustment version. I'll give the path a shot, I remember doing this years ago but couldn't figure out how/what it was called to find out... so my moving around and free transforming was the given option! Thank you again @F4celess really do appreciate it!

you should put a dark drop shadow behind all the stuff in white. It will make it stand out against the busy background a lot more.

There is a shadow. It's just not offset and centered.

I like the new look. But the text as the chain is lost easily. Have you considered an R and S in the sprockets and a traditional chain?

Really clean top image too. Good perspective and I like the reminder to sub. Nice work.

I'll give the R & S ago and see how it turns out, yeah the text for the chain does get lost unfortunately. I'll play with it and see what happens, probably try a different text for it first like @F4celess said. If not a traditional chain might have to be put in the works!

Thanks for the kind words @MattW!

Yeah, the font could help ... maybe you can find a font that feels like chain links ... bold but rounded? That could feel like a cool easter egg upon close inspection.

@F4celess

After tweeking the level adjustment on the YT banners, I think the more 'noised' verison is better as the logo stands out more, rather than is hidden in a busy setting.

The R&S doesn't quite look right to me, the only way I could make the 's' any bigger was to make the logo bigger. But it would cause more problems in the long run trying to conform to YouTube sizing/ avatars etc which will make it lost. What do you reckon?

I was thinking more like the sprocket was solid with a larger R and S in it. Just keep the teeth on the outside and maybe a block font like Impact reversed/knocked out to take up most of the space in the sprocket area.

I'm confused on what you mean bud

What do you think of this for the new chain font?

Oh, I like that a lot better! Consider looking into type on a path though. You can draw a smooth path around the sprockets and type on it, avoiding those hard bends.

When I have some time I'll 'Shop what I'm talking about. I mean fill in all the negative space in each sprocket so it's solid white, then put a big letter inside to replace the current knocked out shapes in the sprocket.
