Youtube 60fps Now Enabled For Everyone.

Looks like my latest video is at 1080p60, finally motovlogs can look smooth:

Do you guys notice the difference?

I tried my drift HD on 60fps today. It makes the field down to 130° from 170° which I don't mind so much. But it also drops to 720p which kind of ruins the whole effect. It's all a bit more blocky and pixelated.

Guess I'll be waiting until I can afford a camera upgrade to join the 60 frames brigade!

I don't think it's so much about those who don't know, but more about those like myself whose equipment would actually lessen the resolution in favour of the framerate. I personally would rather a rich and detailed 30fps video than a fuzzy lower res 60fps one.

Of course as SOON as I can sort that out, I'll be up the trouser leg of 60fps like a Rat up a high res drainpipe! Sadly the funds currently don't allow.

On YouTube the difference between 1080p and 720p seems to be very minor due to the compression they use. The framerate is really obvious though.

I find the GoPro Hero 2014 really sharp at 720p60, do you use a drift?

Yeah. And only a Drift HD 1080 at that so it's a couple of years behind the beat.

60fps certainly looks smoother for movement, but as I said before it's more clunky on the detail side of things. I know that on YouTube 1080 and 720 aren't so different, but that's only because their compression 'handicaps' the 1080 video. If the video is not ideal to start with them YouTube's aggressive compression will only make it look worse.

Of course the only thing to do is to make a video and try it!

It's on the list. After I've edited my way through the 400GB backlog!

I'd hate to have that limitation on my camera. What are you thinking of upgrading to when you do?

TBH I'm not sure.

It would have been a drift Ghost-S, but I've had a few eye opening moments with Drift. Both surprises with their hardware and with their support.

In the manual it says "get the fastest memory card you can". So I did. And followed a spate of videos getting corrupted. So after digging on their support forums there is a little post from Drifts official account saying " DONT use the super high speed UMS cards. Or ANY made by Samsung. They don't work very well"

So that was £30 on a Samsung UMS super high speed memory card wasted. Thanks Drift.

Also the connector hatch on the back of my HD has a gap in the seal. So big you can see daylight. I told them about this and they replied "Well buy a ghost-S then. They are more waterproof"

Not good.

But I don't know which way to go. GoPro is a NoGo. I don't like the camera in a box setup.

Ion perhaps. Or now that Contour are back in the game, see if they release a camera with external mic capabilities. They have the flushest mount to the helmet setup in my opinion.
