i never even thought about the insurance aspect of having a camera on my helmet. now im gonna record every time i ride with our with out mic. yay having proof some people are not looking out for you and almost killing you.

My camera records every second of every ride. If nothing happened I delete it as soon as I get home. It's caused me to have to buy big memory cards, figure out a sensible way to power the camera through the bike, and I have to carry my laptop every time I go on an overnight trip somewhere. It's worth it though.

i need to do that gopro batteries only last like an hour or two. or i just need to buy a hanfull of batteries and keep them all charged... seems easier to put a wire in the bike and keep it going like yours

I've got a 32GB card and a Sony battery pack. At the 4 hour mark, everything runs out. All batteries and the memory card.
I use that setup on long trips.

My mom knows I make motorcycle videos for YouTube...she just doesn't know exactly what. Like sometimes I tell her I shoot and exhaust video or a tutorial video...but that's it. No other family knows anything about it. And only a couple at-home friends know. So I do feel like I'm living 2 lives.

 It's not like you're doing porn, Toast. Unless you just don't want your parents to see that you've bought so many bikes in such a short time.

I wish I had my camera on a couple months ago. Went around a corner to meet a huge black bear in the middle of the road. Was with a friend and we were both fumbling with the cameras on our bikes to get them rolling. Unfortunately, by the time we were filming, the bear got tired of us and went into the woods. :(

No sense in recording 1080 if you're just recording for accident preparedness. I get around 8hrs on a 32gb card in 720. Battery life kinda sucks though, I think it's around 3hrs.

I live with my mom, so she knows everything about my motorcycle history. I'm riding my 5th bike in the 6+ years I've been riding. Give me a break.

Not exactly sure. Many possibilities...would have to be near as fun as my bike, which is a hard criteria to meet. Maybe something better suited for luggage to be thrown on.

Well, the drift HD has a tricky video resolution, it's not real 1080 so to be able to see plates or small details, HD is required. SD in the camera looks too blocky, it's less than QVGA resolution.
The recording size in MB is the same in 1080 or 720 because 720 doubles the frame rate.
Another thing is that the FOV depends on the resolution, you get the biggest FOV recording on 1080.
The camera eats up the battery at the same rate when it's recording, doesn't matter if it's 720 or 1080 so there's no way of going over the 4 hour mark with the batteries I have.
Also, sometimes I touch the settings in the camera and forget to change them back and I end up with useless, messed up videos. I don't review them every day so sometimes a vlog can go for a week, then the weekend comes, I review the material and it has bad audio or improper resolution or wrong framerate or 90º FOV. I had bad audio _again_ this week, today I deleted everything since Monday because I used the camera for other purpose on Saturday and forgot to change the settings back.

Now, I envy all of you that can get cheap bikes and replace them almost every year.
My dream bike is a CBR600rr but they're incredibly expensive here. A 2006 is about u$s 13000. Used.
A 2010 GSXR600 is u$s 16000. A brand new Ninja 300 is $7500 to $8000 depending on the dealer.

cbr600rr' is a sweet bike my brother has one. i love that bike i dabbled with the idea of picking one up used for like 5000 where im at.

and how are the ghost hd's? i really want one but are they much better then gopro's?

i recommend a back pack. lol 25 bucks at your local store. about 10-15k less then a new bike.

Need more than a backpack and a tank bag for a week long road trip.

then you sir pack to much  weekends should fit in a backpack.

Your reading comprehension level is pretty low, isn't it? How on earth do you equate a weekend fitting into a backpack to be ok, but needing more than a backpack for a week long trip to be too much?

Anyways, I'm not picky at all with the colors, give me a plain black one, a red one, a white one, anything at a good price and I'll ride. I'd even proudly ride the Leyla edition.

Now, back to the camera, the Drift Ghost in my opinion has a bit more video quality compared with the Drift HD when capturing out in the sunlight. Also a couple more features like the 2 way remote and all the software gizmos like tagging and flashback.
About the camera hardware, it uses the Ambarella platform, the same as the gopro and the Liquid Image cameras, a platform I dislike too much to recommend. The quality and the insides of the cameras are the same so you can compare footage from any of the other cameras and will be, more or less, the same. Take into account that with any ambarella camera, your videos will be cut at the 29 minute mark, they don't record continuously and you'll lose a few seconds of video between the cuts.
Video quality at night plainly sucks, a drift HD or an old gopro are unrivaled in night recording, the current generation of cameras just assume you'll be recording always at daytime.

For a nice, all around and cheap camera which has enough features and is a little bit limited in video quality, I recommend the Drift HD.
I'm not convinced at all with the price tag on the new generation of cameras just for a small improvement in video quality.

This is night riding with the drift HD, the ghost just gets a blue blob in the centre of the screen.

i get a bonus check from work soonish (around Christmas time) and i plan on stepping up from go pro. i just hate the fact it sticks out from the helmet so far and the drift hd doesnt stick out so far and its may more adjustable from the gopro mount (or from what ive seen review wise) i might get a couple cameras just do have different angles all at once so i dont have to move the camera around the bike when i get more into the vlogging.

i just want something better then a gopro for helmet cam

I'm pretty sure the Liquid Image EGO does not use the Ambarella chip. Video quality of the EGO is as good as the GoPro as long as you are not moving. I've been playing around a bit with an EGO a friend let me borrow, it is not on the same level as a Hero2 or Hero3 when it comes to video capture. I do like the form-factor of the EGO though. Unfortunately, there's no external mic input.

Sorry to stray from OP's subject. Carry on. :D
