When Is A Motovlog Not A Motovlog?

i'd never even heard of the term motovlog until a few months ago when a youtube subscriber said he thought i had an unusual style of vlogging so had to google it.

eventually joined the forum here to learn more and starting to think i'm not really making motovlogs at all. my ride vids were just done for my mates to enjoy but seemed to collect a following and just randomly developed from there.

i mostly add my comments after the ride, and only do small bits while actually riding.
i don't use a helmet mike, but use a chinbar mount and skeleton door on the gopro for audio.
i create fake ads to drop in here and there and the occasional motocross meme.
i'll take my favourite comments from youtube subscribers and put them in a 'quotable quotes' section.
there is always music in the background (but kept low key).

all of this seems to go against the trend of a true motovlog being more of a spontaneous onboard experience and it's got me wondering if i should try moving closer to what the best motovlogs do?

You do what you wanna do man, different strokes for different folks. Some people waffle on fine and hold interest, others like knowing what they're gonna say in advance and rehearse it. You gotta make the vlogs you wanna do enjoyable by your own standards before anyone else views it.

If you do what others are doing and it doesn't feel natural to you people will pick up in that. No harm in trying but everyone is different.

Well, vlog is video blog, a blog usually has a subject or topic, or could be a review etc etc. Moto means on a moto...

If you're not a vlogger you're a motovideomaker, or motovidker. Happy motovidking....

The traditional form is indeed talking whilst riding, but you can put your own spin on it. It's preferred actually, it keeps things interesting!

Vlogging stands for video logging and moto is pretty self explanatory. I would say that makes heaps of people motovloggers.

Do it however you please, there's no "set" format to follow or things to talk about. If people like it they will roll with what you have to offer.

cheers, i'll probably stick with the er "motovidking" as lurch suggested although that sounds as if i should put horns on my helmet for some reason. :) i think it would be interesting every now and then to do a more traditional one e.g. just leave the camera on and rave on for a few minutes while riding... definitely make post production a lot easier.

Endurovlog, please don't change anything on your channel. Everybody has their own spin. Just look at RJ, he barely ever talks about anything. The vast majority of his videos are completely speech-free (speechless? o_O). I enjoy motovlogs that break away from the traditional format more than the "same old same old".

cool, i see what you mean. over the years i've seen long threads on topics like what is "true adventure riding?" on the adventure riding forum and the purists start telling a lot of people they aren't doing proper adventure riding. i've been looking around more and there's definitely a wide range of vlogging styles....

Are you regularly recording and riding? You're motovlogging.

I don't get the over reaction and people not wanting to be labelled as a motovlogger.

I guess it's down to if you see it as a literal definition rather than accepting it as a genre of content from a bike.

Another vote for do whatever makes you happy and if you are recording a video while riding you are a motovlogger. I ride a Scooter... still a motovlogger. ;)
