Wheelies!! Whats Your Opinion?

I like them, when I learn to do them, I won't ride any more, I will wheelie trough life.
It shows a good deal of motorcycle control and, like it or not, it's part of the motorcycling skill set.
I'd rather watch wheelies on a public road than the occasional idiot trying to show off by doing burnouts, hitting the rev-limiter, riding fast with a loud exhaust (and crappy bike) or doing anything that takes little or no skill at all.
I cannot do them, just tried once and did not get much of the front end to raise because I don't know anything about wheelies. And I don't want to try to learn the skill having no idea. It'll take too many attempts and it over-stresses many components of the motorcycle.
What's your plan for learning to do them?

If I'm lucky and only damage the front fairing on one side it would be about £400-£500. Add a pannier lid, £50-100...

I will do a tutorial maybe in december, but, the plan is to take baby step to grow confidence and skills.

There are two popular techniques for wheelie.
1. Power Wheelie, which use "only" the throttle (and the suspension compression).
2. Clutch wheelie, wich use... the clutch ;).

By the way, your street triple is a wheelie monster. The best you can do is to start to learn power wheelie : it's easier but not consistent. You will start to have "the feeling". The first time, you will thing you hit the balance point, but not even close :P.
DOn't forget to use your camera to see your progress.

...Oh, and ALWAYS cover the rear break :D!

I used to unintentionally lift the front wheel on my CG125 in 1st and 2nd, but it didn't weigh anything. The Deau weighs nearly 1/4 ton, so it's a lot to lift for a bike that's geared for distance not sport.

I'm not sure I can power wheelie the Street... unless my missus is on the back.

Clutch wheelies are a doddle though. I'm not sure about recording them as it's illegal in Switzerland and I have no private property to practice in.

Something wrong with the bike if it doesnt wheelie with ease. thats the destiny to wheelie, i try not to wheelie the bikes ir ide as much due to wrong time wrong place sort of thing.

Nah, it's pretty well documented that the Speed Triple power wheelies a lot easier than the Street Triple. Nothing wrong with it at all.

You can wheelie anything if you have commitment and skill, ive seen stuff from harleys to trikes to mopeds with like 1 horse power wheelie
