It seems i am either confused about the term "Motovlogger".

I don't count myself as a "MotoVlogger" - Granted i have posted a few videos about "MY Personal life" but that doesn't mean i am a motovlogger.

To me a motovlogger is someone who posts videos about his or her life's expericences thats not bike related but blogging while riding a motorbike instead of the Traditional sitting in front of a Camera.
So basically like any video blogger on youtube but with a bike.. make sense?

I don't see myself as motovlogger Purely because i ONLY post videos that are Bike related.
Videos such as

* How to Videos - this could me mechanical, wheelies, riding style etc
* Compilation videos - Interesting key parts of commuting like red light runners, avoiding pot holes etc.
* Rare event videos - interactions with Police, Crashing, Rare bike spotting, basically anything interesting
* Test ride Videos - and i don't mean just (ow this is fast) without actually explaining the engine etc
* Product reviews - Only when / If i genuinely feel no valid videos on youtube merit the product.

So i question for the Poll is,

What Makes a MotoVlogger a Motovlogger?

AM i right?

A motor and a camera = motovlogger :) The topics or the subject matter being filmed is not relevant at all. Some of the silliest subject matter is sometimes the best.

Well thats my take on it.

Agree. I don't think it matters what the topic is...whether it's personal experiences/stories or strictly bike related...in both cases you are riding a bike while talking, regardless whether it's a specific topic (bikes etc) or just random stories.

By definition:
MOTO= Rides a motorcycle, V= makes a video while riding, LOGGER= Logs the experience.

The key here is the logging part. It is not defined what to vlog about so you can do whatever you want. That is part of the magic. You like someone vlogging about riding in the middle of nowhere, you get a channel. You like following someone's personal life, you get another bunch of channels. You like immersing yourself on an endless twisty road feeling the wind and the roar of the engine, channel is there.
VLog topics:
Life
Motorcycles
Games
Computers (bwahaha, I'm the only one that does such lame vlogs)
Music vlogs
Product reviews (cupholder or something on a bike, otherwise is not a motovlog since you're not on your motorcycle)
Random street stuff
Road rage
Weird sightings
Off-road riding
Buddy vlogs
Pillion vlogs
Daily commute

It is not necessary to attach a mic and talk on your vlog. You can just show the road or whatever you like.
People get confused when they try to copy, follow or make a vlogging style and think that that IS the entirety of motovlogging when it is just a part of it.
Vlogging is like writing, it is just a creative technique you can use, the same way you can write a novel, a poem, your ideas, a shopping list or a love letter. You're publishing your "writing" (vlogging) through youtube and you can get followers that liked your material and people which is not "into it" and just ignores your content.

So, sorry to break this to you mate, you ARE a Motovlogger. You did a lot of motovlogging.

i cringe at that word. I sony deny ive dabbled in vlogging but i gravitate away from it, i don't need to vent my love life sob story for the internets or talk about having weight loss programs for health etc etc..i want my channel to be informative and Only about bikes, hence why i don't see it as motovlogging, i see it as a Bike channel.

I watch your channel regularly, and I'd put you firmly in the motovlogger camp, even the latest stuff.

I like it so I hope you don't change, and I hope that doesn't cause any offense.

By your definition Pete, there are hardly any motovloggers then. I dont think Ive watched a motovlog in the last year where someone talked about their love life / sob story / weight loss program. And would have watched well over a thousand videos.
What ever you want to call it... you are one Kurt.

You don't have to, you did not give up your privacy or private life and that's great, it is your style. We know face, house and address from other vloggers, it is their style. Both styles are proper motovlogs and people making the videos, motovloggers.
Your channel is all about bikes but you are a motovlogger AND a spannerhead (if that's a proper way to call a handy man? correct me if it is not).

hence why i don't see it as motovlogging, i see it as a Bike channel.
I saw you goofing off way too much not to put you near other "friendly hooligan" vloggers.:D

Any way, what is it about the term that you don't like. Not adhering to the term means that you found some negative connotation to it.

i won't say what persons have posted videos like that but each to his / her own. And yes its recent. well then i don't want to change the way my channel is, apples and oranges.

We know the kind of content people post. And we know who posts it. It engages some audience but as you said, apples and oranges. I don't think that if you start sharing your personal life in a vlog, it'll be well received by all the people that follow you. It is not the kind of content we are expecting. It is not "bad" but as we're used to something else, it may not have the same level of engagement. Or maybe it will have double.
Different audiences for different channels. You don't need to change anything on your channel if it is already the way you like it.

I think... I am going to do a new series of videos,..where.. I don't talk. I will ride around and highlight interesting things via TEXT. Plus, talking after a while get a lil boring.

I see where you're coming from on that

Ohh... I think I know who you mean... I havnt watched it yet. I saw the title and decided I didnt want to know.

Define it how you like, to most a vehicle mounted camera is motovlogging. If someone does a review off the bike, but generally has content from when travelling then maybe that is a vlog, but from a motovlogger.

Quite frankly I'm amazed anyone watches my stuff so I'm quite happy being Lurch OnABike and folk can define me as they wish, hopefully they'll be polite! :)

As long as it is entertaining, it doesn't matter what it is about. It could be about medication for those with ADD, true story Sunday, or waffles. It all depends on if you can be engaging with your viewers.

Hi,

I think you are just confusing yourself with your own made-up semantics.
I understand the term "Motovlogger" as Shirou defined it.

I do understand your cringing if you are associating vlogger with blogger. I understand you not wanting to be a blogger who faces the camera and goes on about all their troubles or whatever happened that week at school, etc. Their own personal Reality TV, so to speak. If that's what you are worried about, rest easy, "motovlogger" does not imply that automatically to those that know what a motovlogger is. By the way, everything is a personal experience. Some are just common, like 1+2=3 or how to change a tire, but you are still sharing your personal experience of that.

However I think that you are incorrect in connecting "motovlogger" with "blogger" except in that they both record and share their experiences. They are not equal or implying the same thing. I'm sure most people don't really think about or care what "motovlogger" means or could imply beyond it's a person video-recording while riding a motorcycle.
