What Camera?

I use a contour+2. I like it. More stream line then the GoPro and smaller then the drift. But I am tempted to get a gopro (or clone) for a second handlebar mounted camera.

I would highly suggest the Drift Ghost, it's small-ish *Smaller than the Go pro* and I think its easier to use over all.

Thanks, and with my dog its not much different than riding without her. She dont affect the ride or anything. It also gets people looking for me, everytime they see a motorcycle they wanna see if its that guy with the dog on his bike

I'd go with the Drift aswell.
Ive only just bought the Drift, but have used the GoPro for about 7yrs (Gen1). Its got its positioning advantages, but as a person that see's Coming off as a 'Growth experiance', the GPro is either on ya chin nicely, or its waaay too exposed for an impact with the road. (my past offs anyway).
The Drift being on the side, has its vulnrabilities, but less likely to be hit with the typical HighSide then Somersault that follows...In a LowSide, you'll be sliding and rolling, so Cross-Fingers the drift wont be doin' the slide aswell...lol

Another win for the Drift. My understanding of the new GPro, you have to mod the GPro case to plug in a Mic vs the Drift, you dont.

I use the Drift HD as my main vlogging camera and some Liq cameras for an alternative video feed.
I bought the Drift HD last year because it was the best choice at that time compared with the rest of the cameras on the market. The decision was between the Drift, Gopro and Contour. The gopro used proprietary accessories, the Contour IIRC didn't have a mic input and the Drift had all things that I wanted at the price I was willing to pay.
I cannot remember though, why I bought the Liq cameras. It was one of those late-night ebay sessions and ended up with those two on my cart. They didn't had bad reviews but, as with all reviews, one thing is having a camera for a whole day to write for a magazine or blog, and other different thing is living with the camera day after day.

I have, so far, an excellent experience with the drift HD, it is a camera that I'll buy again -no questions asked-. It is a great piece of hardware, well made and it is very similar to other digital cameras on the market so the hardware is nearly open for hacks. I had a go at trying to hack the firmware to fix a bug and to add a couple features and it all seems doable. I managed to download some resources like the audio files and the splash picture. The programming is plain MIPS R3k but for now, it exceeds my level of knowledge.

I may sound like a broken record but the Sony Action Cam, I think, will only get better and better. The GoPro... I swear, if something doesn't reek of shouting out "I have a camera!", then it's the GoPro. Might as well get a TV station news camera and strap it to your head ! The smaller, the better... at least in my opinion ~

Let's not forget the Garmin cameras, they're out in the market for a while and don't seem to be gaining momentum, like anything but Sena.

A TV camera surely would look funny.

You know what makes an awesome second camera? Contour Roam- Full 1080p and cheap! I would use it for my main camera. But as a second camera, its hard to beat due to the price.

I concur. Sony is much bigger company than GOPRO- they have more assets/cash to throw into upgrades and new technology. Thus, I am also "banking" on them to get it right in the future with a new cam. All that said, I currently own a GOPRO and contour roam as my back up camera.

The Drift and Contours take the cake in that respect. Price wise the Contour Roam has got the market there. Years ago when I started my mic project, I had motovloggers ask me to work on the GoPro. I told him “My idea wont work on a lunchbox strapped to the side of your head!”

Sony HDR-AS30V. Tiny profile from the front, even inside the new smaller waterproof case. Good specs, can record 1080p at 60fps and 170 degrees FOV, plus I got it at $237 AUD delivered and the kit included the LCD Screen Mount.

Looks like I'm late to the party, but since chin mounting looks the best, GoPro is your only real option there.

If you don't mind the side/top mounted positions you have so much more choice, and the Drift seems to be the current King here.

I'm partial go GoPros because of their support and versatility. I've recorded a lot of MX video with one on the side of my helmet. I am excited to get some front of helmet footage on the street.

I used the GoPro Hero2 before I got the Drift HD Ghost. I prefer the Drift because:

- Creates less drag when mounted on the helmet.
- Love the built-in display.
- Love the video tagging function.
- Rotating lens makes setup on other parts of the bike super easy.
- Had better low light capability than the GoPro (at the time I bought it).
- I think it's less obvious to people than the GoPro.
- I think it looks cooler.

The built-in mic sucks ass though, so when using the Drift an external mic is a must!
I rigged up my in-helmet mic using an extra mic from my Scala Rider G9 kit.

I use the Mobius ActioCam because it was cheap (but makes astonishingly good videos), 50€ for the cam and about 15€ for additional equipment.
Sadly the Mobius' battery life isnt that good and there is no option to connect a microphone, that's why I bought a power bank and use my smartphone to record the microphones audio.
