What are the biggest challenges you have faced regarding motovlogging of recent?

After starting my motovlogging journey just over a year ago I hit a stretch of six moths or so where my motivation was lacking. It was winter and along with the not so favourable weather I too suffered from the ‘my computer is crap, struggle to edit blues’. Add to this I’ve really struggled to find a way to record my audio due to wind buffeting at speeds above 20mph…

All in all, it’s been tough to stay motivated but with the investment in a hi spec laptop that makes editing a breeze and finally getting to a stage where I can record audio on the fly I’m inspired to get out there again and get posting.

What setup are you running for in helmet audio?
My main camera is a Osmo Action 2 to which I’ve connected the audio adapter & mic with dead cat taped inside helmet (LS2) Biggest issue has been the wind buffeting over the top of the windshield that is directed straight into my face. I will be either cutting down the windshield or raising it as I still have issues with wind noise at highway speeds.

Getting clean audio is the beast I'm tackling at the moment also dude, might be worth heading over to check out @Drakhen99 channel, he's got some really useful tutorials on some audio software that helps cut out a load of the wind noise

Thanks for the mention, @LimeyRider - and you're right! I've pretty much NAILED wind noise down with some helpful plugins and techniques, all of which are - or at least SHOULD be - in my Motovlog Gear Setup playlist on my channel [link in my signature below].

Hope that helps, @Moose M !

Wow. Just purchased Clarity GC and had a play with ‘unusable’ footage. Cleans it up beautifully. Thank for that - you got another loyal subscriber here!

Awesome - I'm so glad it worked for you! It's really a game-changer, isn't it?

PS: Welcome to the Road Crew :D

I decided to reboot and pull my moto channel away from my more nerdy side, and build it into a channel for my wife and I to share our adventures. That was at the beginning of 2022. Lets just say, 2022 did NOT go as planned. Just into riding season, I smoked a deer. 10 days later I was in a work accident that landed me in the hospital for weeks, and a long term recovery process, which ended up changing my career path. I mean, I came out ahead in the end, and still with the same company, but it was one wild ride to get there. However, I'm also finding between recovery, new position (twice), and rider coaching, I did very little actual riding. Now I'm struggling to figure out how to get started again in 2023.

Right now it’s the weather. With Spring less than a week away it’s been too damn cold. I have some minor repairs that need to be fixed on both my bikes, and with luck once the temps go up, more riding and motovlogging will begin.

After all the lockdowns and the financial fallout from them etc, have you found it has had any impact on your channel, be it views, creating content, buying new kit etc?
I think the main thing I struggle with is having the drive to go places, I loved visiting castles and historical places before it, but when they all got shut, I fell out of the habit of doing stuff, and have struggled a lot since.
Have you felt the same at all?
I gave myself a challenge. One picture a day. Doesn't have to be epic, just has to be a reason to go somewere. the rest works itself out on the way there. That and if i stay in the house to long my wife will have a long list of things I need to do.

That's a great idea! Now that I bought an actual camera [a Sony ZV-1, FWIW], I am doing much the same thing - find a place to ride to to take a picture, and talk about whatever on the way. It's worked out well so far :D

My biggest challenge is time... I work away from home as in, in a different country away from home, on my current work project I'm spending more time away than at home, so trying to split my time at home to get out on the bikes to do motovlogs as well as spending time with the family usually means I'm not able to get out to film enough content to cover uploading weekly videos so my uploads tend to be very sporadic,

For instance if I was to try and upload weekly then during my time at home I would need to try and film enough content in a 3 week period to make at least 9 videos to be able to cover weekly uploads whilst home and away, at the moment I'm away 6 weeks, home for 3.

I usually tend to get out on the bike when home then leave all my editing and uploading to when I'm stuck in my hotel at nights while away at work but even this can be difficult as most of the time I spend all day in front of a computer at work so getting the motivation to sit all night in front of one editing isn't always easy...

What I'm trying to do just now is just spend maybe 1 or 2 hours each night doing editing with the hope of at least trying to get one video out per week (this happens rarely), my channel definitely suffers because of this with my sub count being very very low and getting very few views on most videos which in itself can be a bit deflating to the motivation to actually make video's... its a vicious circle...

I try to keep the mindset that I'm mainly making them for myself and for family back in my home country (Scotland, as I also live overseas) to let them see the sights of Thailand,

I think the fact that I work and live in different countries which both speak different languages from me also hampers my views/subs as youtube tends to show videos to audiences in the country where it was uploaded and if it gets good views/interaction then it'll get pushed out worldwide (unless your a big youtuber), which in turn means my audience is shown videos from a different country from a guy speaking a different language if uploaded whilst away at work or if at home then same country but different language so they just don't get any interaction or at least very little... I've tried using a VPN to counter this different country thing but they don't seem to work when uploading to youtube, I can tell this with my analytics as videos uploaded at work the bulk of the views are from that country then when uploaded at home the views are from that country.

Jeez.. reading this back I wonder why I even bother, its an excuse to get out on the bikes though... :)

Other problem, like al luxury problem or whatever....

I have filmed more in the last few weeks then I have time to edit. And there is even more to film the upcoming weeks.
I love all the rides, events and different bikes to ride, so that is the main focus.
But at some point you do need to edit it, otherwise it might all just stop.

But editing with the declining viewings on youtube recently is getting harder.
Less motivation to edit if the views drop regardless.
And thus the edits are more "raw" which might only help the declining views xD
