Voice Over Vs Live Audio

So here's a question for you all. So far almost all the Motovlogs I've seen have live audio, by that I mean the person talking/riding does so while riding and not afterward during the editing stage.
Do you know of any motovloggers who do voice over instead? I'm trying to figure out the style of video I want to create and wanted to explore the voice over and narration style.

Hey Motorpsych, not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for. But with afterwards narrating I found the Awesome Players very inspirational. You can find what I mean here:
Do take in mind it's a combination of live commentary and post-recording narration.

I'm not a fan at all of dubbing at all and will actively avoid videos/channels that do it. I prefer a more visceral experience when watching videos.

That's just me though, many people like different things.

While I very much agree, and I find the "live commentary" a lot more entertaining. I don't mind the Combination the Awesome Players use too much. Besides, every Vlogger or content creator has their own style. It wouldn't be fun if everyone liked and made the same thing.

As I said, everyone likes different things but I can't stand it. It feels so forced and fake to me in your example.

Jakethegardensnake does it every once and a while but its never for the whole video.

I think the expectation of a motovlog is that it's done from the bike.

Not to say you couldn't do one, but you'd probably need to make it something different if you weren't to alienate those who don't like it.

Having said that, I think voiceover as a supplemental would be OK if it added info you missed or came to light after recording.

Thanks all, for the replies. That's pretty much what I thought too. I do like some narrated videos, though they are more like short documentaries. Maybe I'll use a mix of both. Thanks again.

Vlogs aren't documentaries though, well generally not. You could compile some vlogs together as a documentary, or from a tour etc and a voice over might suit that

Thats how I see it, a motovlog is exactly that live audio. In some instances you would be able to dub over, such as a collaboration of shots and you want to talk to the audience, but i personally dont like it when its dubbed over on a motovlog, to me it would be like a normal vlog of someone sitting in front of their PC webcam and didnt record any audio, but went and dubbed something over later, would be like a poorly dubbed asian movie.

There's a time and a place, I prefer live, however I've watched RidingWithTom's crash analysis video and it was a good video because it was narrated over, and you can hear the In hindsight of what happened, also he didn't have to much to say while he was low siding his bike! so for that type of video it is nice for post voice ot be added & of done well can be just as easy to watch as live,

say if you had a topic to talk about you could go for a ride and stay quiet and let the Mic pick up the wind and exhaust, then afterwards add your voice in post where you'll have better mic quality and time to think and say what your topic is about rather than multitasking.

or a how to corner for beginners video you can say what you're doing and in more detail in post than you can when flying round the corner in real time.

TLDR; Done right on the right type of videos it will work, work with 2 soundtracks (sound recorded when riding wind / exhaust & your commentary afterwards) if you do it well it'll set you apart form most.

-My opinion.

Really good information, thanks. I like those ideas, and I'll pro dabble with voice over while mostly doing live audio. Thanks again.

I think if you're doing an upload about your crash, then vouce over is taken as a given, can't really do a moment by moment as you're going down lol

In general, Im in the camp of no voice-over, but sometimes you have to. If its occasional, like your mic went out, or you can tell a cool story to go with the footage that you think your subscribers will dig, yea, but not as a standard way of creating your vids, thats my IMHO.

Giving a live presentation is way nicer than a scripted/dubbed one. I've been there, done that. It also good to note that this holds true if you are able to give the presentation well, it doesn't need to be perfect but well enough for people to follow.

I do agree that sometimes you have to resort to dubbing when the situation is not ideal to do a live cover (noisy environment or f*cked audio).

I totally suck donkey at doing voice over. Ugh.

Suck donkey, that's so funny. I had to do some voice over on my maintenance videos as trying to explain torque settings while wrenching was not working.
