Vlog Subjects

Question for those of you who go out and talk about a certain subject vs. those that just ride and react to what happens around you. Do you sit down and plan your vlogs out? How far do you go, just come up with a subject beforehand, or do you take notes, research, practice before hitting the road?

I have a hard time thinking of things to talk about on the fly and I just feel like im rambling because I cant think of what to say. Im still new to the vlogging thing and Im sure it gets easier with time. Just looking for a push in the right direction.
 
I do my vlogs on a subject base instead of reactionary ones.

Primarily because I don't like vlogs that are just going around reacting to random stuff.

If you cannot come up with a topic, just talk about something interesting that happened to you in the past week or so. Or just make a video responding to often asked questions on your channel. After that formulate your thoughts just slightly over the main points and talk over that so you don't ramble. You don't have to memorize a script, just particular points you want to address.

This is why I want people to comment more on my videos so I can reply to them like we were chatting as friends, and it gives me more concrete points to work with rather than create a video of mish mash stuff.

This is going off topic but.

Are you from around London? I'm going to London for a holiday end of March - early April. Maybe we should like meet up and shit. Think i'll go start a thread on the meetup section.
 
Funny thing is I just made a video about this yesterday and it sucked completely! Partially because I'm still trying to get a decent mic position and partially because talking without having anything on your mind is hard.

Depends on your mic, some mics pick up more sound along the tip, others along the sides. Whatever you do, you don't want the primary sound pickup to be facing the visor or neck openings since it'll pick up a lot of wind.

Also, pick a topic before you do your vlog and rehearse the main points before you record it. Makes it more coherent and presentable. Vlogging in general is really no different from public speaking.

I'm trying to find a balance between picking up my voice and picking up the sounds from my Sena headset as I want to do a adual vlog with a buddy.

I had the mic at my ear and picked up the sena sound great and my voice pretty well but the wind noise going around the helmet was really loud.

Then I moved it to the pad above my eyebrow. Picked up both well but at speed was extremely noisy. So I might have to move it back to above the chin curtain again and just do extra editing for a dual vlog.

I think you guys might want to just invest in a pair of Sena 10C instead. It is a video camera with intercom. So you don't require the mic to pickup the output since it already goes through it. All you need to do is just focus on picking up your own voice with the mic.
 
Generally I get on the bike and think of a topic then vlog it.

Most of them get tossed.



I dont plan them out before hand
 
I write down a list of topics I want to talk about. Half of them get scrapped, because by the time I can actually go for a ride to film, I've lost interest in them. I think a bit about what I want to say when the subject pops up in my head, but I never plan out or rehearse my vlogs. Sometimes it's a bit forced to talk about some subjects, but I really enjoy doing more personal, "real life" vlogs. I will say that a lot of editing goes into my vlogs, because I ramble, repeat things etc. So usually I will talk for an hour straight and edit a 7 minute vlog from that
 
At the moment ive got a list of vlogs to do on my phone, which I keep adding too whenever I think of a new one.. I'm rubbish at thinking of topics on the spot but I guess the more I do it, the easier that will become :)
