Shoot that is some money.

I got a used Alienware m17 laptop, first gen. with dual drives, one is ssd and only 500 gb. I use portable external drives for media storage. It handles the graphics really nice and quick. It did not cost that much on eBay.

Alienware 17" Laptop Computer
17.3 inch 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) IGZO IPS Anti-Glare 400-nits Display
NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GTX 980M with 8GB GDDR5
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6820HK (Quad-Core, 8MB Cache, Dynamically Overclocked up to 4.1GHz)
32GB Dual Channel DDR4 2133Mhz (16GBx2)
256GB PCIe SSD (Boot) + 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s (Storage)
Intel 8260 2x2 802.11ac 2.4/5GHz + Bluetooth4.1
Windows 10 Pro (64bit) English

I use it for everything, not just videos. It has been a dream. I replaced a 2011 MBP 17".

MSI 17" Apache Pro Laptop
Nvidia GTX960M
Intel i7 6700HQ 2.6GHz 8-core
8GB RAM
256GB SSD
1TB 7200rpm HD

Does the job nicely, works well for gaming too. Would like to upgrade RAM though, and a bigger SSD would be sweet.

I'd have to sell my bike to afford that . Lol But very very nice !!!

For editing that is over powered :D

It all depends on how much you want to spend and if its for gaming as well.
You could spend quite a bit less and still have a good editing PC.

You'll get more performance from a PC than a Mac of similar price.
But the choice also depends on your OS preference.

I have an i7-2600k (overclocked to 4GHz)
8Gb ram
GTX 780 gfx card
And it handles editing fine.
(Its good for games too ;))

If I were doing a lot of editing then I'd only add more ram to make it 16Gb.
An SSD storage drive would be useful for editing the footage but then save the final video somewhere else like an external drive.

Thanks for your input ! I thought it might be over powered but wanted to use it for years to come and some 4k video !?!

If you are a tinkerer and pretty computer literate, you could trying going the Hackintosh route. I started building hackintoshes about 6 years ago and it's gotten way easier and more reliable since then. Google tonymacx86 before you build a PC. Really straightforward to install OS X if you buy compatible parts and you can always just install windows if it gives you too much trouble.

I really wanted an imac 27" but I don't want to put the money into final cut pro .

$1500 imac plus the software puts me around 2k with some plug-ins . I'd like to stay around $1500 and still get a karma or mavic .... lol

I thought they were more than that. I'll shut up then :)

Some are .... but , it seems I can get a really nice 27" used one for 1500-1700. Maybe less.

What's happening is my old lady is letting me spend my income tax return this year . Lol next year she's making me remodel part of the house. So I need to do this right ! Lmfao

Processor: Intel Core i5 4690K
Motherboard: AS Rock Z97 Extreme 4
Graphics Card: MSI Nvidia GTX970
Ram: 8GB DDR3

That's my quick and dirty specs. You can build a nice PC that will handle editing very well for super cheap.

The one thing I like right now about the Alienware Laptops is their Graphics Adapter. $200 (roughly) for a shell that can take up to 2 desktop Graphics Cards, making it one of the more future proof out there. I have the adapter, but do not use it. Yet.

I built my current PC in 2012 and it's still flawless for editing and bullet proof, never slows. Cost of build was around €1100-€1200.

Specs:
Processor: Intel i5-3570k
Graphics: Nvidia GTX660ti
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77i Mini ITX
Case: BitFenix Prodigy
Ram: 8GB Corsair Vengeance Ram

I will most likely upgrade the graphics card (possibly the processor depending on new card) in the next 12 Months in order to keep her as fast as possible.
The latest version of Premiere Pro (CC 2017) seems to have a problem with the latest driver for my graphics card so have had to turn off some of the faster rendering options, I may try to roll back to previous version in the mean time.

I'd suggest building your own, its very satisfying, you don't need much knowledge or experience just a bit of research on parts, plenty of videos out there to show you how. :)
