Video Editing For Android?

I am a total Noob on here and to vlogging, but did a trip last year for a month out West. This year I am doing another trip for TWO months, again out West. I will have three cameras with me, Sony AS100v, Fujifilm S6800( for good landscape shots and zooming, also has good video) and Galaxy S5( amazed at the features this thing has!). I am using a USB OTG plug to link the Sony and the Fujifilm cameras to the S5, and the S5 has a downloaded Video Editor app( I discovered it by mistake when fooling around with the settings on the camera). Question is, Are there any better Video Editor apps out there for Android? I don't want to have to lug a laptop around while on my trip. Space is an issue...

Welcome to the forum!

Don't forget to introduce yourself in the Welcome area, but in answer to your question, I can't help with an editor, but what you may well encounter is storage issues unless you buy a lot of SD cards. What you may be better doing is buying a 10 or 11" netbook, you can get these quite cheap now and you will be able to store more on it. Procesaing and rendering may take some time, but that's not necessarily an issue depending on your schedule.

Don't bother with the netbook as your Android phone will be able to get your video footage onto external hard drives (Micro SD in phone or download footage to phone -> USB OTG with USB power from a wall socket/battery pack if needed) with no or little additional cost.

Record your footage and archive it to an external hard drive or 2 as you go, then edit on a proper machine later on.

I had a similar question about using an ipad and I ended up just taking along my netbook and using it to store all the video files until later when I was back home to edit.

I can also store all vids and pics on a cloud site called Smugmug. it is very popular in the states and the owner of it is on ADVrider. Does anyone use the Cloud for storage?

Let's say your footage comes to a few gigabytes, I imagine uploading to cloud storage may take a very long time (unless mobile data speeds are fast in the US). Or, if you get hold of wifi, you'll have to be sure that bandwidth is not capped and the the upload speed is decent, if not you'll be spending a lot of time waiting around for footage to upload.

You are probably right. I uploaded something like 25 pics at a time and it took quite a while for them to upload, even on my home Wifi. I think I will use either a few larger flash drives or invest in an external hard drive( about $100.00) that will store all I need and is powered by the cellphone when connected via the usb. Actually, the setup is pretty sweet. I can connect my micro sd from the pov camera to the cel phone, copy the data on the phone's card, then export that back onto the flash drive. Same with the Fujifilm camera I have for scenic shots and zoom pics.

Of course, this still doesn't resolve the need for a good video editing app for the S5. Anyone tried one?

That's why I recommended it :p

Don't edit on your phone, edit on a PC later. All I would do is watch back the footage and make notes of where you went and if anything interesting happened etc to make editing after the trip easier.

I have my own NAS with 12TB of storage that I sync all my content with remotely.

Swiss Motard! Thanks for the interest and replies. The reason I desire an app for the S5 is that I will be gone for two months on the bike. I NEED to post up regularly while on my trip. I can do the editing and such while at the campsite/tent, and post at any place that has Wifi. Can you tell us about your setup with your own remote storage and how you do it?

Thanks! Dave

Kinemaster Pro is a good one for android... or Video Maker Pro

The second option is much simpler to use and would work better on a phone

I use a Surface Pro to copy my data from the various SD cards (3 GoPro's, my phone camera, and a Zoom H2N) to an external HDD. I then make brief notes about where I went and what happened in those clips.

If I have Wifi this all gets automatically sync'd with my server every time my Surface Pro is connected to the net.

Then I save everything until I'm at a PC as mobile editing is pants :p
