hey guys im using sony vegas pro 12, i know it can be done but i just cant remember how lol. im looking to have a part of video where one part is cut out or blacked out so it only shows one part the whole time.. best way to explain it would be to show my new intro

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqqHywJBAaM

now you see the intro and you see me, i want to try make a video so its like that but then you see the head turn to the side. but to make it like that i need to record a video of it then edit out all the background and have just me but not sure how to do that anymore >< anyone know how to do this

I really don't know for sure, but I think you need a green background when you film it, just some green cloth would do I guess. Then you need to find out how to get your editing software to delete the green from the video clip.

I've never tried it, and I might be totally wrong :)

It's easy and cheap to do this effect.

It's called chroma keying, it's basically keying out the chroma (greek for color) that you have in the background. It can be any color in the background however green and blue are the easiest hues to work with since your most likely not going to be wearing green clothes, or have green tinted skin.

To do this effect first, you need the background to be even and well lit with good quality lighting to bring yourself out of the background for a sharper image. When you've recorded your shot bring it into sv pro 12 and go into the effects menu. You'll see a list of effects there should be one named "Chroma keying", this will bring up the hue slider and other options to get the right look for your videos, it's mostly trial and error but do check for how sharp the border is.

Btw for your intro. I suggest making the background darker and less dense fog, right now it's very flat :(. The text could do with some more fading and lighting effects, it reminds me of a animated gif right now.

Sorry don't mean like I'm bitching btw, I have the video editing skills of a 5 year old. I just read a lot :P

You don't /need/ a green screen. You can use masks... I just don't know how.

Masks need to be edited frame by frame and take a lot of time to ensure an accurate, sharp edge. Chroma keying removes the background throughout the entire clip and can even be done live due to it's simplicity.

The idea with the text is to make it visible when the light hits it, rather then all the time with a moving light hovering around randomly. This way your helping create that sense of depth as if the text is not part of the image but a separate entity.

You can select what gets masked out but that's mostly intended for static objects. You'll have to adjust the mask each time your position changes and considering a viewable frame rate is 24 fps that means you'll have to edit it 24 times for every second of movement.

well had a look with a text movie and its going to be stupidly hard to line everything up with the other layers lol can make the text a bit more brighter atlest haha mite be a lost cause to try do what i want lol. tho the text is a separate with an effect underlay. may tweak it a bit put in a lighter fog with a kind of post apocalyptic land scape and get the text to stand out as much as i can will be a bit hard since its dark to lol
