Do britts actually buy anything made in America in decent quantities though.

Can’t see them being a big consumer of American bikes or cars.

Tariffs don’t work. We did it here for many decades to protect local industry. In the end those local industries are still all gone because they were being propped up by the government and couldn’t make in on their own.

We are small fry, but we will get caught up in a trade war between the USA and China, China has been flooding the world with products sold and delivered at less than our own countries can even sell the item for. They are potentially being a catalyst in the decline of our high street shops and the jobs they create. The world is turning.... I often wonder if it is turning in it's grave?

There are no small fries in a world economy.

China is just participating in capitalism. Is it their fault that companies take advantage of the low cost to manufacture due all sorts of issues or is it the companies fault? Better yet, it is the consumers' fault for wanting bargains.

So what is the remedy? I think if the Chinese (or any other country paid their folks more) then the cost to manufacture would equalize if at the same time the countries like the US realized if you pay the American workers more, you have to pay more for the goods. That would slow growth on the US side.

However, we see Nationalism and Isolationism come about. Closing borders to trade forcing the local populations to buy from home. That artificially boosts the local economy in an unsustainable way for long term because borders do not remain closed indefinitely.

I would not be surprised if we see President Trump and other billionaire persons and companies make tons of cash only to leave the common folk high and dry in the end.

President Trump has clearly deomstrated the US under his leadership is not a reliable ally. His thin skinned reaction to criticism is his weakness. I found it very two faced for his administration to take offense and walk off after Prime Minister Trudeau's statement when President Trump has spewed out far worse.

I sure hope we (the US) do not need any assistance in the next 50 years or so. We might find ourselves sitting on the curb.

Now, how does this play for a conspiracy...

Two world power with the EU and China going for third. Russia wants to take down the top so they help get there guy in power to disrupt the US and EU cooperation. Basically, we fight among ourselves and the Russians become the new go to (so they hope).

But what if EU takes the place of the US in world leadership and becomes the go to people for problems? Russia does not get top billing so they must disrupt the EU further.

Reminds me of the three major powers in the book 1984.

Hopefully Prime Minister Trudeau is right in that the American people will again have common sense.

Initially, yes. But it turned political pretty fast, and once that happens it should be moved to off topic. Most of us come to motovlog.com for motovlog related content, not politics.
Take my suggestion or leave it, your choice. I’m not an admin, but I do enjoy participating in motovlog related discussions.

Ok, I’ll be sure to stay in the motovlog section.
Having just read my last post I have moved this to off topic as like you say, it got political and is not about Harley other than tenuously. Ta for pointing out.

Oh, I did not know it was directed at the almighty Harley. Yeah, their going to be hating life when they hike US prices to offset higher material costs as well as loss of international market share.

Meanwhile...I got my nuts!

Well, didn't Trump sell all his shares, when taking the position? He should have enough liquid funds. If the stocks in Asia plummet, because of the trade war. Then his term ends, and he will invest heavily in Asia, knowing that the next president will start lifting the bans.

Just a thought.
