Total Editing Noob

Hello my fellow riders.

I'm new here and I'm very passionate about starting to motovlog. The only problem is that I have ZERO editing skills or know-how about anything related to it. So I was wondering if any of you kind folk could tell me what program would be best to start with. Something straight forward, nothing to fancy that I could mess around and practice with? Or some other way I could "self-educate" myself?

Thanks a lot in advance!

ps: I have a Windows PC

I've heard good things about Cyberlink Powerdirector as far as being user friendly. There are lots of YouTube tutorials on Sony Vegas Pro which is what I use. I use a Drift, too.

A very basic place to start is windows movie maker. I haven't figured out any of the other editing software yet.

I'll be sure to check em both out, thanks!

To be honest I think it's better to start with a "pro" editing program because doing the basics is just as easy as doing them with movie maker or imovie.
I use Premiere Pro which is very easy to learn and is extremely well represented in the tutorial world.
I don't like sony vegas at all even though I used it for years, although it's all down to personal preference.
Get trials for them all and see which one you like best if that helps.
Good luck :)

You might have a good point, but for me using one of those pro editing programs is like walking into a plane cockpit, so many buttons and switches :D

I was a editing noob and started off with Vegas Pro and found it quite straight forward to use ,anything I didn't know was on a youtube tutorial and they were quite easy to follow also

It might seem that way but I promise you that the basics are just as easy if not easier than something like movie maker :)
Just figure out how to import footage (drag and drop), the cut tool, how to export, and you're off to a great start.
Shouldn't take you more than 3 minutes on youtube.
Just ignore every other button/setting if you want and eventually you'll just end up learning them as you need them :)

The GoPro application really is fantastic for "getting your feet wet", and anything you learn there will carry over to the full fat programs.

Plus you don't have to fork out a penny or be a dirty little pirate to use it :)

I've just downloaded HitFilm 3 Express as it's currently free. I've not tried it yet but HitFilm 2 has been fine and I've used that for more than a year.

Thanks a lot to everyone who replied! I have more than enough options to choose from now. Let the editing begin!

As someone who is fairly familiar with photoshop I feel starting with Vegas was likely the wrong step. I probably should have gone straight to Premier but saw some basics in Vegas and went that route.

If I were to do it again I would watch some tutorials of both on YT then proceed with either software.

Unless you're planning to torrent your software, take a look at Sony Movie Studio Platinum. It has pretty much all of the key features of Vegas, but is like $50-100 depending on the version you buy. I use it for all of my editing with a really old copy of Photoshop CS2 for any still stuff.

YouTube itself! I'm constantly finding little things regarding Sony Vegas Pro that I can do and tutorials on YT help alot

As Carmo says. Tuto, read, be block by problems, go to find solution and you ll learn quickly.
Don't know if possible on PC, but Imovie is perfect to start editing.
