To Stay Anonymous?

Do you show your face on youtube?

My name is soon to be out anyway... I did my first duel vlog with my wife and she likes to yell at me....for hitting bumps, leaning too far, and the other things. You hear my name every few minutes....

Right now I've chosen to stay anonymous. Has more to do with my comfort than anything else. In the future, IF my channel becomes popular, and IF it's requested repeatedly I would probably consider doing a face reveal for a milestone.

I still dont understand why a face reveal is so important? Can someone explain why and where it is needed?

because people are nosy as fuck and have an urge to know everything. Thus, they bug people for face reveals so they can know just that much more about them.

They want to see how you look like so that they can laugh at it later. I'm kidding. I can't say why, because I have ever cared to know what others look like. I'm bad with remembering faces and I usually associate the motorcycle to the person.. If you are without your bike chances are I would even recognize you. LoL!

When I started my channel in 2012, most people were staying anonymous then, so that's what I did. For no real reason other than it was what other motovloggers did at the time.

I hid my face and my number plate on my bike, but then I just thought stuff it! This is too much hassle, so my face has been all over my vids and in other people's vids for years. I have no issues with it as I don't ride like a dick in my videos. The only thing I do not show is where I live. I never upload the footage of me leaving from and returning to my house.

I choose to be anonymous, because I want to keep a low profile. Many have asked for face reveal, to which I decline. I don't bait people with "if I reach a 100k subs I will reveal my face" or stuff like that. I just don't want to do a face reveal.
Some have said that you need to put yourself out there if you want to be on top. I don't deny it, but I still choose not to do it. I'm fine the way it is. I have been noticed by motorcycle/accessories brands even without showing my smug mug. Some of them actually like that "mysterious" feel of not knowing what the person looks like....

totally with you on this one, SighBored. i've had increasing calls for a face reveal the past two years and at one point i did just make a joke of it and appeared in a monkey mask lol! and even when you don't reveal personal information it's surprising how much youtube subscribers can find out over time.

but i prefer to keep some level of privacy and make it more about the bikes than me. and yes it does seem to create some kind of mystique that a lot of viewers seem to like anyway. there probably is an advantage to having your mug appear in each vid but i wonder if it's of limited value, and would much rather stay in the shadows.

I show my face... But, I hid my speedo so that it's not seen on camera. With that said, they can't legally give you a moving violation ticket based on a video, they have to physically catch you in the act.

I'm giving a second thought to showing my face.

here's why:

I'm going to be training as a Psychiatrist. Part of that work will be working with inmates, I hope, because in the US, our prison system replaced our mental health system.

As a student going through medical clerkship, I saw so many prison patients, and saw myself in them. I was lucky my teenage hooligan stunts ended in nobody getting hurt or caught. I was lucky that I had my own medical issues that made me too freaked out to get into drugs, though I often considered it at my lowest points.

I was thinking to myself...maybe I should hide my face in my videos. Maybe I don't want to be recognizable out in public.

I sort of like the fact that during the week I can be Dr. Cat...and then throw on my moto suit and become someone completely different once I leave work.

Throughout my life, I've always lived this kind of double life. I was a nerdy cardiology researcher and student by day, and raced mountain bikes and trained every evening and raced all weekend.

I think at this time, I may redact my videos containing my full face for this reason. Docs in mental health DO get murdered.

In my case, it's not motovlogging and my motorcycling that worries me...
it's my real life outside of it that is far more sensitive and dangerous.

I don't go all out to hide my face like it's some top secret, if one should look around enough they can probably find out what I look like. I just don't want to do a special "reveal" or "hey look at my face" video. :)

I'd rather not have people know my full name, but I don't mind them knowing what I look like. With that being said, I don't actively show my face, nor do I try to hide it. If my face is there, it's there.

I've chosen in my videos to remain anonymous, in doing this I've used an alias rather than my real name too. But the question I have is how do you go about promoting your youtube channel, instagram ect whilst also remaining anonymous? This is one of the biggest challenges I'm facing right now and surely I can't be the only one?! Any thoughts on this or feedback it'd really be appreciated!

I try to keep My identity secure, given what I do outside of Vlogging it's better to keep the two worlds separate. Anytime I've gone out to a meetup with other vloggers there has almost been an unwritten rule that no photos are taken unless everyone Is happy with it and anytime I meet a bigger YouTuber I will always keep any camera off

Personally i like to not show my face but i dont mid it when other vloggers choose to show theirs .
