It was a christmas present and my mum bought it back in october :/

I had mine for nearly a year when it went kaput, it has a year's warranty like any other product. Either try the people you bought it from or Drift themselves.

Just got email back from drift as this was posted haha they said if i send them the footage they will try to sort something out with the warranty! haha fingers crossed

Re: New license and spicy110

i read up about this a month or so ago, im 21 so i can still do a 5 day direct access course so it doesnt really affect me, but for the younger riders this is a real kick up the arse! Nice vlog bro

Re: New license and spicy110

acording to roadcradtnottingham you can do direct access at 24 now or if youve held the new A" license for 2 years

Re: New license and spicy110

Yup, but if you're 21 I'm guessing you can do like the A1 test, and then the A2 straight after?

According to http://www.bikelicence.co.uk/ there's no period of waiting, so I think you can hypothetically do your A1 test, and then A2 pretty much the next day.

EDIT - Re read it, just realised it's 2 years waiting between each test.

All I know for sure is that for people who are 17, we need to -
Do test at 19.
Restriction to 400cc/47bhp.
Do test at 21.
No Restriction.

Fair enough then, looks like im gonna be on looser plates for another year before i can get a bigger bike :/ hopefully my bike will still be alive by then so i dont have to buy a new bike half way through :/

Re: New license and spicy110

I'm kinda in the same boat. Done my mod 1 last week for the restricted licence even though I'm 23 but long story short, I'm a short arse one of the instructors at the training place I'm at told me I wont be doing DAS on the Gladius'. Anyway, passed mod 1, ballsed up mod 2 so I know come under these stupid rules now.

My plan is to sit the A1 licence mod 2 then shortly after try their GS500 for size and do the A2 licence. 47Bhp is far better than 33Bhp. If I can't fit their GS I'll buy my own one and lower it. After the 2yrs are up I might do the DAS but we'll see how it goes.

You earned yourself another sub there :)

But does this affect people who are already over the age of 21? because i was 21 on the 15th december, and the law was introduced late december i think... i dont know if it onl affects people who are under the age of 21 or people who havent passed any A1/A2 test. I know that on a direct access course you have 5 days training, on the 3rd day you do an A1 test, then the 5th day you do an A2 test depending on if you pass the A1 obviously... oh why did they have to go and make it all complicated :(

Re: New license and spicy110

I've written a blog post about the new laws: http://qnbikes.com/2012/11/30/how-to-pa ... test-2013/

We also commonly discuss this over at http://bikething.co.uk

What follows is a brief description of the new laws:

CBT stays the same.

At 17, you can take the A1 licence. Testing is done in the same way as it was before - theory, mod 1 then mod 2. This restricts you to a 125cc bike with 15bhp, same as CBT; but you're allowed to take the L plates off, ride on motorways and take passengers.

At 19, you can take the A2 licence. You don't have to have already done the A1 licence to do the A2 licence. This restricts you to a bike of 46.6bhp, and it can't have been over 93.5bhp before restriction.
The A2 licence involves the same testing process as before too - theory, mod 1 then mod 2. If you've already got the A1 licence, you don't have to take theory again.

After 2 years on the A2 licence, you can take a further test to get the A licence and ride anything. This further test is mod 1 and mod 2 for potentially the third time, but most people would probably be doing if for the second, as I can't see many people doing the A1 licence.
Since this is 2 years after passing the A2 licence which can only be done from age 19, the minimum age to get hold of the A licence is 21. However, unlike the A2 licence which can be done at 19 regardless of getting A1, you cannot do direct access for category A at 21.

Direct access, as you're referring too, is now at 24.

It doesn't matter when you're born or how old you are or whatever. If you're not 24 right now, you aren't going to be doing direct access after the 19th.

The new rules aren't complicated, there's just a lot to remember.

You don't need to do the A1 licence before A2.

Because you're 23, you can take the A2 licence (restricted to 46.6bhp) direct access scheme (available minimum age of 19).

These new laws are significantly better than the old ones for anyone aged between 19-21, or for those that don't want to go for the full direct access for whatever reason - just like you.

Yup. It's through the A2 direct access. After 2 years, you can do your mod 1 and 2 again to go up to A and ride anything.

No problem ;)

Aye I know but done the mod 1 anyway and least if I pass this then do the A2 I don't need to worry about my CBT running out.
