Hi all,

I've been trailing my remote mic setup and have been getting frustrated. Pretty much above 40km/h weather my visor is open or shut the wind noise takes over. I bought a digitech memo recorder and it came with a mic. I put my own cover on it and no matter where I bury this mic in my cheek pad the wind noise gets it and yeah I need a bit of help. I have even gone as far as shoving the recorder in my helmet and doing it like that which helps but because I can't turn the volume down my voice distorts it. Any help appreciated here guys thanks.

How exactly have you put it in the cheek pad? I put mine under the strap in my Quantum and it fits in nicely - wind noise is okay < 60mph.

I've put it just under the cover of my cheek pad, behind the whole pad itself, buryed inside the cheek pad both with and without a foam cover.

I have the exact same helmet. here is my mic setup. and this is a VERY cheap mic. $6 on ebay. you hear some wind, but when speaking into it at 100km/h sounds fine. and can hear the bike. picture below. my youtube channel is in my sig with a video of this setup while riding

Checking now your plugged direct into the Gopro? Which Gopro is it?

yep directly into the goPro Hero 2. using the skeleton case. if you want to make it fairly water resistant, not water proof... get the original waterproof housing and drill a small hole where the mic input sits. place your mic in there then surround with a little Vaseline(petroleum jelly). If you're not in massively heavy rain/snow the thing will be fine. just make it a tight fit

edit you can also buy some fluffy mic covers. might tickle the chin but i've seen videos of them doing an amazing job

How noisy is the helmet itself when you wear it? It took me a few months to realize that most of the wind noise I was getting in my mic wasn't wind hitting the mic, but rather the sound generated by the wind circulating through the helmet itself. One is much easier to get rid of than the other.

This is my second helmet so I have no idea how 'noisy' it is. It is an Arai full face so I'm guessing its a decently quiet helmet. I can say its tons quieter than my first helmet which was an rjays one.

Yeah I have the Gopro 3 so ill be trying the USB mod thing and see how that is at getting my audio and cutting down my wind noise

Re: Tearing my hair out, Arai Vector 2 mic placement

Ok update, I've ditched using my digitech voice recorder just too 'cheap n cheerful'. So audio recording has been relegated to my iPhone and the earphones that came with it which to be honest isn't that bad so for a few vlogs it will do till my USB to 3.5mm chords and ebay mics rock up. Ill post my results up, it will probably be the topic of my first vlog T this rate.
