Style

Just curious if you guys and girls have any editing styles you would like to emulate.

Personally I suck at editing and it's something i've spent the last few months working on (one of the reasons I haven't posted any new videos lately).

But in watching other youtubers I find it interesting how many different styles there are. Personally I would like my videos to emulate the style of BDouble00Live.

No idea how he does it though lol

So just curious... do you copy anyone's style?

Nope, I don't copy anyone's style.. Some have commented that my videos look something like other motovlogger.. But honestly I have no idea. Maybe it so happens we are like minded, and have the similar style.

Well great minds think alike lol

I was watching some other motovloggers and I find YummiR6 tried to copy BakerXderek a lot but not as well. So I mea I want to kind of make my own style but at the same time if I have something I see that I like I don't think there is anything wrong with emulating it.

I would say try emulating it but with some of your own spin on it, that way it's not a copy of someone's style. As long as you like the end result, do it.

Ah, the everlasting discussion about style.
You never "gain" a style, it grows organically, takes on influence from your interests and inspirations and morphs into its own thing. It will never be a copy of someone elses style.
I could replicate Snowcat's intro with a drone and landscape, but I can't replicate his tendency to know exactly what intelligence level drivers around him has. If I tried, it would be my own thing, too different from Snowcat's style. I would merely be influenced and inspired.

I see a lot of people catch themselves doing the "tsyeeah" thing, and comment that they shouldnt "steal" from Derek. But it wouldn't be stealing, just inspiration.
Artists discuss this topic all the time: "Oh I can't wait till I'm good enough to have this or that style". And every time the topic pops up I have to explain that style is something you always have, that always changes. If you try to do a particular style, and demand a good replica. You would only get frustrated.

I'm moving into a new realm that definitely inspired by @motopilot. I've talked to him about it to make sure I'm not ripping off his style, because he's made a big impact on the industry in a short period of time. Seeing his approach inspired me to pull from my design and motion graphics background to make something fun. I'll be introducing it in the next week or so.

In this industry there is rarely something truly "new." Sure, maybe it's not been done in a Motovlog, but it's been done somewhere. We all pull from things that we see and like.

We like a desaturated color palette, outlined text, fast cuts, a specific angle, etc. IMO, it's about using that to build your own style with a nod to what inspires you without completely copying.

Ive been editing since 2000 and have a style. But it's changed so much over the years. I couldn't really compare it to anything that I've seen as it doesn't really have any unique elements that make it stand out.

Content first and style comes second. Let's not forget the finish. I try my best to produce a quality product with a high quality finish. If I'm not satisfied with it why should my viewers be?
