Well that's not really accurate. You're not meant to do anything it all depends on what you want the experience of the user to be. Most dubstep, rock (metal) and hardstyle mixes are -.5 dB. When you look at Jazz and other more relaxing music, the experience should be different so that perceived loudness should be adjusted as well. I do alot of mixing and mastering for my own projects and for bands, and have done so for about 10 years. So I should be good, in the audio editing corner I don't process my vlog audio though, I did however did a fun thing on my last vlog that did get me better results.
I record my engine sound with a separate mic (I have stereo mics on my GoPro, so one is in the back of helmet, one is for voice). I separate the stereo channels, and EQ the voice track to remove bass (below vocal range) and remove high (above vocal range) and boost the vocal range. On my engine track I do the opposite, and mix them out. Turned out pretty good! (
