Hey guys,
I got my helmet mount in for my sony AS100. I had some issues with just using the dual lock from 3-m (inconsistant camera angle and being aligned where I'm looking vs 20 ft to the side) so I decided to give this a go. Plusses, it has a ton of adjust ability and the camera attachment is area is padded. minuses, it really looks like it was made for using with Skeleton case or at least the mounting hardware for it if used on the bottom mount but I didn't want to drop another 30 bucks on the skeleton case as mounting hardware would be pushing $75 bucks on a $150 camera. I ended up using the stock water resistant case and doing a doorlatchectemy and drilling out a hole for my external mic. Interesting enough, if you use an external mic and the skeleton case with this, it will not work because you are blocking the entire bottom door area, but you can't use it with the skeleton case via the sidemount as they just don't work together.
Now, Sony could have made this really easy if they would have included a stabilizing plate and a way to reduce their 1/4 20 tripod mount to the M4 metric tripod mount on the back of the actual camera...do we even really know why the heck that's there? That would have, possibly made a way to get that external mic available and the weight of the entire mount cut almost in half without the water resistant case. But this works and I have a different mic coming in and some foam that will fit it properly to the hole I made for this mic (just not long enough to get into the helmet).
I have a DYI and review I can put up later if anyone wants it.
