Song Removed By You Tube, Video Is Still Up, How Can I Re-edit The Video In Imovie And Keep Theviews

Hi,
I'm very very new to editing and youtube and copyrights and all of it.

I had a video up on youtube. Copyright claim blocked it everywhere on the planet. I used Youtubes option to 'remove the song' and to have youtube process that.
My video is still up, but there is a silence in the background which is weird because I'm dancing :-)

After I re-edit the original project in IMovie and add in a new song (the theme from LoveBoat, yes I know I'm super edgy) . How do I then upload the new version of the old video without losing the comments, likes and views of the original on you tube?

I don't want to experiment and loose the originals comments, likes and shares.

Thanks so much for what might be a super straight forward fix.

Dont think you can. It will be a new upload, and I am not aware of a way to replace the existing one.

I'm not aware of a way to change audio tracks/ same with video I guess on pre-existing uploads. Think you'll have to reupload man!

Don't think there is a way unfortunately to change the audio track, unless it was a YT song added over. If you reupload, it'll be a new upload so previous likes/dislikes/comments etc will wiped.

tricky....then hmmmmmmmmmm Thank you all for the replies.
Seems it will have to stay the way it is. I will have to use the 'love boat' theme somewhere else.

Next time, if you're using content that you yourself did not make, like clips from advertisements and music, render it out and set it as private or unlisted on your channel first and wait a few days to see if contentID kicks in. If it doesn't go ahead and publish it.

This way you don't have to delete and re-upload videos people have already watched unnecessarily as it looks bad on the content creator (You), and if you delete the flagged videos, you delete views people who watched it before aren't coming back to watch again.

Better to get it right once and for all, and not remedy it.

The problem with royalty free music...is that I don't even sing it while dong things...it isn't the soundtrack to any of my life!
But, I take both your points seriously and think I'm going to have to veer into the creative commons and soundcloud and other resources....

I don't suppose you found a way round the reupload? But I get what you're saying, a lot of the stuff isn't as bad as you think ;)

I tried messing about with the youtube editor and such, but, it's a no-go for the background music to my dancing :-) It's not all lost though because I'm deeee deee dooo ing all the time anyway...

I was going to suggest that ... I thought maybe you could replace audio with the built in editor.

I need something with the 70's disco/bossa dancing girl sound for it to make work...
I think I could find something in the youtube available music...it's going to take a little trawling though....I think the built in editor will work.

Looks like you're going to need to bite the bullet, cut your loses fella.

If you're ever going to use copyrighted stuff, upload as unlisted and see if anything gets flagged. What I found is if you like a song etc, see if any other channels are using it and check on your mobile phone as well. If it doesn't get blocked etc, you're often good to go!

However, that does't stop future problems

Dandoolittle, thanks man, that's great advice on checking the song on other platforms and how it's been used elsewhere......It seems there are a few artists I like who don't care their music is all over youtube.
Also, I've been looking around on Soundcloud, and I can find music from artists I know...and some artists even have their own pages....I didn't know any of that before.. thanks for pointing me in this direction peeps..

You can't re-edit and re-upload and keep the views. What you can do is use YouTube's video editor portal, and edit your video, just replace the song with one from YouTube's list of songs that still allow monetization. The song list is not a lot and not all are great, but at least you can salvage an otherwise "mute" video (where the song has been removed).

Done & done.

i don't think the youtube editor allows you to add a song for just a portion of the video. it will replace the entire audio track.

Yes you can adjust the bar when you add a song from YT's song database via the online editor.. Unless they have changed it.

Yeah, you can adjust the length and location of the YouTube track in your video but the rest of the video will be silent. There is also an option to give priority to your video's original track or the YouTube track but it isn't working correctly just yet.

Click on your YouTube icon (upper right), then Creator Studio, then Create, then Music Policies. There's the list of all the copyrighted music that you are allowed to use. I've done a whole video on it if you want to check out my How's To's playlist on my channel. You can search on song or artist. You can even revenue share with some of the songs, but don't monetize when you first upload. Make sure you read the terms before you use any songs.
